I was excited when we signed Savic, since every report labelled him as a bright prospect and people on this forum were saying they had seen him play and he was going to be great for us in the future. So forgive me for not being too overwhelmed at present! Is there anyone out there that watches Italian football (i don't) and has seen this guy play? Is he one for the future or one for now AND the future?

Have only seem him play a few times and hes impressed me but with Nastasic hes coming from a top league at a very young age where Savic was performing in an average league and was 21 at the time. Only 2 years difference but a lot of players these days tend to peak early.
Time will tell but i think we have done one hell of a deal if we can get rid of Savic and bring in Nastasic for around £10m.

Fiorentina defender Matija Nastasic insists he's not chasing a move to Manchester United.

The young Serb has been likened to United captain Nemanja Vidic and has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

But Nastasic says: "My career is just beginning, I am not yet 19 years of age. I still have a long way to go. I hope in a few years to be able to say yes, I can be Vidic's heir."

On an offer from United, he added: "No. I am happy here, at Fiorentina. I want to stay here, my future is here."

Wenger was also supposed to be interested in him at somepoint.

Same with Savic, they couldn't agree a fee with Partizan after training with Arsenal.

I still think savic can be a good centre back he has it all in his locker he just needs to work on the mental side of his game think he needs a loan away from the spotlight and to play footie every week in a settled back four. Thats the problem we have, lescott and kompany are our first choice centre back and have developed a great partnership, the backup only comes in for the odd suspension or injury and doesnt get a run of games to develop a partnership! And lets be honest covering for VK or JL is a massive task, plus getting adjusted to a new league and the fact that a simple slip could cost you team three points. I hope Nastasic comes in and steps up to the task with ease but it not an easy role to fill.

Will Baconface/David Gill give the nod to allow him a work permit as Serbia isn't in the EU? After all he isn't a well known player in a major league unlike Angelo Henriquez who got one for United after no caps for Chile and a handful of games at first team level in the world famous Chilean league.

If they did that then all hell will break loose. He has played enough games in the Serie A to be classed as a talent and Serbia has a strong Fifa ranking so it shouldn't be too difficult.
