Nastasic

Let's just say he's a little raw at the moment. He's young, hopefully he'll learn. Anyone remember the Zabman when he first came to City? Christ, some of his challenges were ''robust'' in the extreme. Now look at him, in the PFA team of the season last season IIRC. There's still hope for Nasty, but he has to cut out the silly tackles and challenges.

For such a clumsy **** that gives away needless fouls he's only been booked twice this season, http://www.soccerbase.com/players/playe ... r_id=62146 don't know how many times he got booked last year but don't think he was suspended last year.

Between Nasty and Boateng, who would you guys have preferred?

Nastasic, Boateng whilst talented didn't want to be here, Nasty does.

Boateng wanted to play in his natural position ( CB ) not as a right back.

This may have been mentioned earlier on in the thread, but not seen it, but for me a big difference to his game this season is not having Gaz Baz playing in front of him. Also, as the defensive methodology has changed - zonal to man marking, then this will have affected him too. He's young and talented enough to adapt his game to the new realities.

He's young and will adapt,
but my problem with him is his lack of speed,
when he gets turned he's
Slow to react and takes lazy option and fouls the player .
Hopefully that can be knocked out of him.

Most of the claims about deterioration in Nasty's game is just make belief. He gave up a foul that led to a wonderful freekick goal. And that has caused a shitstorm. In reality though, he is actually better now, than he was last seaason. His positioning has always been very good. It is even better now. He is stronger, tougher in the tackle, and fantastic in covering up for the leftback. He is more comfortable on the ball now, and tries fewer inaccurate long balls.

That said, he will have some average games, just like he did last year. And a few poor ones too. But by and large he will be excellent, like he often is. In the game that apparently shows his "rawness and loss of confidence" he was superior to our "All World" Kompany. So if Kompany can have a poor game, and not have it ascribed to "loss of confidence" or "being a little raw," so can Nastasic. By the way Hummels have had a couple of clangers this season too. He too is an "All World" CD. Simply put, sometimes "All World" forwards and midfielders get the better of All world defenders. Talkless very good young defenders.

He tackles well, blocks well, intercepts well, is tough on jumpballs, passes well and has a cultured footballing brain. He is a very good CD. Has always been. The fallacy of his loss of form is just that, "a fallacy." Came in against Everton, and shutdown the mercurial Lukaku. Matched his movement runs and hustle all night. Does he foul a bit too much? Arguable. But so did Kompany in our title winning year. And so does Zaba now. Funny enough every Nasty foul now becomes a point for discussion. Is he commiting more fouls than he used to, yes. But this doesn't mean he is playing poorly. As a good majority of these fouls are from jumpballs. Some are really touch and go fouls. He will adjust and that will drop. This still doesn't mean he wouldn't commit fouls, he will. Like the one against Bayern, which was a good foul, in spite of the dangerous shooting position. Mueller was turning towards goal had he not pulled him.

Nasty is fine and a solid pro.

Agree with this, particularly the kompany thing.
Nobody can argue that kompany hasn't committed some stupid fouls in the past. It happens, but im certain our 2 CB's are going to be a formidable partnership for a long time.

The problem isn't commuting fouls, its when they're done in a situation they don't have to be or where the should be. Experience will get him there, sometimes you just need to stand tall and close the space instead of trying to get your foot in between someone's legs and get the ball or pull someone when the ball is going out or to the corner..just be in the right place and be patient.
