Micah Richards as a centre back made Richard Dunne look like a world class player. Time after time positionally he was caught out and Dunney had to save him. For me a quality centre back pairing has to have one leader who is positionally aware and talks to the rest of the defence about their positioning, it also has to have pace in order to make up for times when positioning is questioned and it needs strength. Nastasic is incredibly young. He is not as athletic as Micah was no, but he does read the game well. His first full season for us last season saw him booked how many times? That is because he read the situation and got to the ball first and didn't dive in. We didn't concede many last season and full credit to him. I think this season he has suffered a dip in form somewhat, but at his age that is forgivable and with Kompany back hopefully he can settle back into the side again.
Richards was never going to be a brilliant centre back, at right back then yes he can be with his pace and strength. Nastasic can learn from who is around him and learn the tricks of the trade in order to get the better of attackers. But he has all the basic attributes to be a quality centre back.
