Nathan Ake

But probably in retrospect. Mendy was brilliant for Monaco, Gundog was one of the top players in his position, Stones was a footballing CB with lots of promise. And Otamendi was one of the best CBs playing in La Liga.

That's a fair point, but those aforementioned appear to have regressed quite dramatically. Stones, mendy and gundogan all had long term injuries and haven't fully gotten it over it (mentally). Ota has had a couple of good seasons with us but still always has his brain farts.

Well seeing as you seem to know just about everything what are next weeks winning lotto numbers?

I bet you're one of these who goes round claiming to be the biggest blue around as well.

Unlike you. I am knowledgeable to understand when others know best and be able to take a rational view on what the club have achieved to see whether they have done well.

Im also mature enough to know we cannot win everything, and that fans of every other club would bite your hand off to win and achieve half of what we have these last few seasons.

It's funny what we manage eh with such underwhelming signings.

You carry on with your superior knowledge of the transfer market though as it obviously floats your boat to moan

Oh I'm so sorry for having an opinion different to yours, I never said the club hasn't done well I only said I didn't think Ake was good enough for us and that the 4 other players in question haven't lived up to their full potential within their time at the club. Shall think twice before expressing an opinion in your gushing presence sir big blue

You can't always bring in stellar players in each position. Remember last Summer? We had £80m potentially to spend on a defender but there was only Maguire and no one was really too disappointed that we didn't follow through with that. My dream signing at this moment would be Koulibaly. There are a few central defenders who just know are absolutely outstanding and dominate a pitch. Kompany at his best was one. Thiago Silva was one. VVD is another. So is Koulibaly. You're right Ake isn't up there with those but what do you do? We need a good solid defender in this position, and after this season when we ended up playing Fernandinho in central defence I think this is a must-do deal.

One thing in the back of my mind is that City have Garcia and Harwood Bellis coming through and I don't want to block their future. I also think Laporte is an absolutely top class player, and we don't need a world beater alongside him. We just need a dependable player. I still, perhaps stupidly, think Stones can come through because he has everything to be a top player. He seems to have lost faith and people have lost faith in him

You went beyond Ake not being good enough, even though you have nothing to base that on by saying continues to be underwhelming.

Before you come back and say you have seen him play for Bournemouth, how many games have you seen him play for us, under Pep and surrounded with better players. No answer needed as we know it is zero. That is why we have people paid millions to try and determine that.

Stones just needs his old confidence back, but I dont see it happening here unfortunately, but it makes sense to keep him as a rotational option looking forward to seeing the likes of Harwood-Bellis and Doyle and maybe more come through here. It'll be good to see where they're at in the cup games next season.[/QUOTE]

Stones is the more gifted player but his confidence is shot and he has far too many lapses in concentration.

The reported fee does seem a tad inflated but Ake should be a good squad player.

What do you think he’s better at and please don’t say passing! The king of the 20 yard square pass is John and he was touted as some kind of English Beckenbauer. Never makes ground when he has space, commits anyone or plays a pass to open a team up. No pace and error prone.

I was going to say his reading of the game and passing range :p

Always thought Stones passing ability was wildly overrated. Especially when it comes to long passing. Compare his passing to Laportes, it's night and day.

Ake will be the best CB on the ball at City. Stones doesn't compare.
Ake will also be the worst CB aerially at City, but it's been stated many times in this thread why that shouldn't be a deal breaker.

He'll be a good buy.

I work with three Bournemouth fans. They ALL think he's been brilliant for them, their best-ever player, and that he deserves a chance at a bigger club. Passing first-rate, positioning first-rate, wins more than his fair share in the air, and a leader. It's a big 'yes' from me.

Could turn out to be an absolute snip at £35m if that’s the case.

I honestly can`t understand all the negativity about the signing of this player. He will be a more than useful addition to our squad and IMO he will be the first of two centre backs who we will bring in and we will shift both Stones and Oti.
IMO we will sign a top quality c/h but Ake is still far better an option than Stones and Oti.People keep complaining thats he`s only an average player but we`ve yet to see him play in a decent team than a continuous poor team.Pep will groom him to an even better player of that I have no doubt.
Give the lad a chance before castigating him.
