Nathan Ake

Championship FFP is pretty brutal (May be some leeway with COVID) and Bournemouth probably weren't expecting or planning to get relegated. Wouldnt be surprised if there's a bit of a firesale. You'd think Ake, Brooks and King at least probably at good prices.

It's not that the player can't be good, it's that it seems a waste of a foreign spot.
The back up keeper is tricky because of how they have to be good with their feet. Bravo was supposed to be the #1 but we know of his problems in his first year. But it was worth keeping him as the #2. We saw in the LC final last season Pep say that he played Eddie instead of Muric (Bravo injured) because he needed Eddie for the build up play. He figured Chelsea would press high. So it tells you just how good the keeper has to be with their feet.

If you can find a HG keeper who is that good with their feet and knows they will be #2, then yes sign them. But that just narrows your options. If Eddie goes down then we have a problem similar if not worse than when Laporte went down. I don't mind if Steffen as the #2.

Mind, UEFA rules allow a maximum of 4 associated-trained players.
Now we have: Carson, Walker, Stones, Sterling.

If Aké comes in obviously Stones or Carson would have to leave.
It was said we'd like to keep Carson for another year.

Stones to stay probably means no Aké.
I'd prefer Aké now and would take the risk Stones might shine elsewhere.

The limit isn't on association trained players. the limit is on foreign ones. Once you fill that limit, whats ledt is 8 homegrown, if which (for uefa only) 4 must be club grown.

Nothing stopping yoy having 12 homegrown, if you have less foreign grown players.

Bravo is off this summer too, freeing up a slot. Anyone kept tabs on Muric, could he be around, even as 3rd choice u21?

Ok, I should put it right:
of course we may have up to 4+17 association-trained players.

But this is pure theory.
Since when do we not want to have 17 non-HG players on our 17 free slots?

Aké swap for Ota means no slot for Koulibaly. Is that what @domalino wants to promote?
Perhaps it's just the way you've been phrasing it but if you put a full 25 man squad in (you don't have to have the maximum BTW), then you could have 25 club trained players. 4 would take the club trained spots(CT) spots, 4 would take the association trained(AT) spots and the other 17 would take the open spots(not foreign spots but open).

If you've got no (over 21) CT players then you're restricted on the 'A' list to a 21 man squad maximum presuming you've got at least 4 AT players. If you've got no AT players either then the 'A' list is restricted to 17 open spots. 2 of which BTW have to be goalies. You can if needed include a U21 goalie in the 'A' list just to fulfil the requirements although that would be the extreme example.

Last summer Cancelo took Danilo's open spot and Kompany's was taken by Rodri. It's why we couldn't sign a foreign CB cause Otamendi didnt go

We couldN’t make a deal for a top centre back. Kompany’s decision to go was made fairly late (in terms of recruiting top talent timescales) thst made it a bit trickier.

We had targets but just didn't have a spot for them, it's why we went big on Maguire and didn't sign anyone after that
