Nathan Ake

Dont understand why you would have ‘add ons’ with a 27 YO full international, let alone one going to a direct competitor. What would you be adding on? Surely not them winning stuff, or number of appearances, or goals scored, so I can’t see why you’d bother?
Helping to 'grease the skids' probably....

If City sell Ake and don’t replace him BM transfer forum will not be a good place to be.

We need Cucurella and then anyone that goes from now on needs replacing.
Probably the same people who bang on about how we don't give opportunities to the youth.

Ake is a brilliant fourth choice centre back who filled in well at left back. I'd be disappointed to see him leave but I understand he needs game time and I wouldn't be heartbroken if we went into the season with three first choice centre backs and a right back who can play there. But I don't think we will.

Let's get it right ake shown decent form in 4 or 5 games in seasons spent a lot of time out injured. We are are actually gonna make on what we paid for him and more than likely bring in a fitter and better defender.
100% this, it's not as we are losing a class player in his prime, the heartbeat of the team.

Ake cost 40m has been injured far too often, his first season he was poor, last year decent but again went MIA when needed.

He can and will be upgraded , and to get a profit is simply stunning business.

A very fair assessment, the lad has never been an ounce of trouble and always gave 100% if he moves good luck to him.

Unless we get Cucurella, I can’t see any sense in letting Nathan go, he pledged earlier this summer he was willing to fight for a place, so I wouldn’t settle for anything less than £60m. If we got the right price, so be it, but I would want to see a fourth centre back promoted from the academy or a young promising left-sided player bought from elsewhere. From all I have read, Ake is a great bloke in the dressing room, and without his anticipation we would have conceded more goals and lost points last season, so it could be argued that without him we would have finished second. After and excellent start to the summer window, it has gone a bit flat, great that Rodri has extended, we all know about the potential for Alvarez, Phillips will improve under Pep when he gets the chances. I hope Haaland hits the ground running, I think it will take half a season for him to adapt to City’s style, so a lot depends on how Grealish and Foden can fill the gaps left by Sterling and Jesus. But I still think we are a bit light on left defense, so don’t let Ake go cheaply. If we get Cucurella, and keep Ake, it would give Zinchenko more opportunities to play in midfield, which could be a win-win for us

So many people saying the same thing, but as others have rightly said, no one joins 'to be 4th choice' centre back.

They join because they back themselves to become an established player/starter in the team. We will sign the best centre back we can get for however much we have a budgeted for....we won't be looking for someone 'slightly worse than Dias/Stones/Laporte, but better than Mbete' for example.

Then if they do well and end up displacing one of the above, our team obviously improves....then it's up to the others to step up again.

Maybe not, just as well then we aren't looking for a 4th choice.
Mad that people keep mentioning 4th choice. If anyone thinks we sold this transfer to Ake as him being 4th choice and him accepting that, then they're mad. Everyone fights for the 2 starting positions, you could have a run like Stones did a season before last and end up being first choice.

City fans: "We are shit at selling players"

Buy Ake for £40mil: "he's not worth it" "overpaid" "not good enough" "sick note" "4th choice"

Also City fans: "WE CANT SELL OUR 4TH CHOICE CB FOR £50MIL!!!"

--------

Look I like Ake but £50mil we should snap their hands off, he isn't worth that much and he can't keep himself fit

Chelsea have lost Rudiger, Christensen...likely to lose Azpilicueta and Alonso....Ake isn't gonna bridge the gap to us even if they get him and Koulibaily (who imo is a much better signing for them)

Really not happy about this. We will end up paying more to replace him

If City management feel that the replacement is the correct level or will improve the team who cares ?

The dippers are the ones who rejoice in the " net spend awards ".
