FWIW I wasn't being critical of Foden the player (he was the best player in the 1st half). I was critical of some of the things he did in the second half, specifically holding onto the ball for too long (he's learned that from Bellingham). Whether you're a City fan or not surely you can see he wasn't the same force in the 2nd half, his replacement came on, did make the pass early and it set up the winner.

Indeed.

As it is, most of the squad has done an immense job given the substandard management.
I wouldn't say immense. They have mostly laboured to victory like previous give them their due the first half was the best they had played since the first half in the opening fixture. I do geniunely hope this is Southgate's last tournament as England could do with fresh ideas. Same as I said about the French National side too. Perhaps Kane might to start to think about winding down as he is showing Rooney's later levels of decline while playing for England.

Absolutely buzzing, great win. Ollie Watkins what a finish, that’s what Kane ‘used’ to do. I’ve been saying Watkins should get his chance, 19 PL goals with NO penalties is more than just impressive. I’m not Southgate’s biggest fan, but fair play to him tonight. His subs worked even though he took the wrong player off. Well done England.

FWIW, there is at least some rational thought occurring in the aether, as Sky Sports online fan rating has Foden as the third highest rated player (7.7) in the squad behind Watkins (8.5) and Mainoo (8.2)

I think Phil should be level with Mainoo at the top, personally, but this at least shows his performance was recognised by the masses.

Kane is ranked the lowest of the starters (5.6), and second lowest of any player appearing, and Bellingham (6.4), Rice (6.2), and Tripper (5.7) don’t fair that much better.

It seems a large number of English fans feel similarly to us on here.

Credit where it's due to Southgate, we looked much better in that first half.

The second half was very cagey, agree that Foden wasn't as good but none of the England players were. Bellingham again stank the place out.

They were the right subs to bring on, but I couldn't believe that Foden was being brought off instead of Bellingham, is this evidence of the conspiracy theories that the FA holds influence on selection?

But we won, and another final for us to look forward to.
