New MCFC Fanaticals Group. (Help Needed)

As I said previously, most clubs in Spain have some sort of group like the one you're suggesting.

Over here, apart from being a season-ticket holder, you can join a 'peña' (a supporters' club) for a small annual fee. This generally entitles you to cheaper travel to away matches (not that too many fans travel over here, due to the long distances), special scarves, flags etc.

This is a video put together by Fondo Joven, a fan club here in Salamanca (look carefully at 0.36 and you'll see my Fondo Joven/Manchester City Cross of St. George!):

Fondo Joven: UD Salamanca:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njMYtD_qH-E" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njMYtD_qH-E</a>

Many peñas then join together in the ground and get the chants started. Some of the best/noisiest in the country are the Bukaneros (Rayo Vallecano, who've just come back up to the First Division). They're a bit like the Barmy Army!

Bukaneros: Rayo Vallecano:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqM95sH6CaQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqM95sH6CaQ</a>

What many of these groups do is produce spectacular choreogaphy, not just with chants but also with all sorts of massive home-made banners and mosaics. Atlético Madrid's 'Frente Atlético' and Sevilla's 'Biris' produce some of the best:

Biris Norte: Sevilla FC:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VtdXln3Peg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VtdXln3Peg</a>

Frente Atlético: Atlético de Madrid (mainly anti-Madrid stuff!!):

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KKpaic9Jy4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KKpaic9Jy4</a>

Naturally, there are some groups which are more 'radical' than others, but generally speaking they make Spanish stadiums far more colourful.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

In this coutry we misunderstand the term "ultras". We think of them as right-wing violent mobs... they aren't! In fact ultras are usually strictly non-violent, colourful, fancy dress, banners and inflatibles groups! There are many many facist violent mobs in the continent but they honestly aren't the Ultras.

Aris fans, Poznan fans and some bloke from somewhere in the Balkans who have all posted on BM have all said this.

Your Spot On Mate, I'd Love To Be Named "Ultras MCFC" But I Have The Fear People Will Be Put Off And The Club Might Distance Themselves From Us. The Situation Is Very Similar To The Struggle A "Traditional Skinhead" Is Faced With, When A Person With Very Little Knowledge On The Subject Hears The Term "Skinhead" They Immediatly Think Nazi, Racist Etc, In Reality They Couldn't Be More Wrong. I Want Everyone To Feel Welcome And Dont Wat To Put Anybody Off, Not RUling Anything Out Yet Tho.

Indeed! Skinheads were nu-school mods weren't they? At first they were associated with Northern Soul, but later they listened to underground Reggae, Ragga and soul Reggae. They were about fashion and music. They weren't about violence and racism. Again, middle class know-nothings who weren't ever going to (and never will!) be cool enough to understand subcultures, lost understanding (like they have with Ultras) of what the Skinheads sub culure was. Even to this day, you ask someone what a Skinhead is and they'd imagine a Swastika and anti-foreign marches.

And not forgetting Trojan Ska. Good post.

They where about aggro though..as I recall it, and the tribal atmosphere at football attracted both rightwing extremists and the local bootboys.
At some point there was a hybrid skinhead that forgot his roots and adopted a rightwing ideology..Which was kind of sad

The Feedback So Far Has Been Great And Somewhat Un-Expected, I'm Currently In Contact With One Of The Recognised Bars Around The Ground In Regards To Holding Our Matchday Meet-Ups, Things Are Looking Good.
I Will Post All Updates In This Thread For Those Who Are Interested,
Thanks Again.

Most European grounds in the Champ. League will confiscate ya small change at the gate, doubt they'll let 200 blokes clutchin drums and trombones in, also, by the time we've translated the banners for the baton wieldin local polizia, in order to conform with Uefa rules, we'll ave missed the match, good luck though, be a laugh.

I just don't think it's in the persona of the English fan to act like our continental cousins. Not sure why that is, could be the stiff upper lip thing the Yanks accuse us of, but there is definitely a more reserved approach to being a British football fan than a Turkish one, Spanish one et al. I think that is why it doesn't work as well as it does abroad. There are pockets of them, yes, but like the Curva Sud for example in the Stadio Olympico, I don't think it will ever be like that because we as Brits are generally just more reserved as people.

You could say the same about the Germans, they're a north European people pretty similar to the English, and south European fan culture caught on there.

The reasons it won't here (and I agree it won't) are more to do with all-seater stadia and lack of alcohol in stands.

*Project Update
Plans Are Well Underway For The First Game Of The Season Pre Game Meet-Up,
We're Pleased To Say We've Managed To Speak With The "Eastlands Bar" And Both Parties Are Impressed With Each Others Stance, We Are Having A Formal Meeting This Coming Monday To Discuss Final Details.
We Will Use The Eastlands Bar To,
• Display Latest Banners (Hope To Have Five On Display For Opening Game)
• Meet New Faces Of Hardcore Blues Who Want To Get Involved With This Project
• DJ's Will Be Spinning The Finest Music Available Anywhere On A Matchday (Madchester, Indie, Northern Soul, Motown, House, Disco, Etc)
• Generally Create A Great Vibe For Like Minded Blues Craving An Alternative Matchday Experience.

The Bar Itself Has alot To Offer Including
• Outdoor Area With Music
• Hot Food Stands
• 6 Pint Beer Pullers For Quick Service

It Has All The Making For A Suberb Opening Doo. This Project Is Only Going To Work If The Numbers Are Great Enough, It's As Simple As That, We'll Be Putting In A Lot Of Hard Work In The Next Few Weeks To Ensure The Swansea Game Meet Up Is A Success And We Hope To See Many Of You Lot Down There.
I Would Also Like To Use This Post Again To Plead With People To Help Design The Banner Ideas Posted In The Original Post, Once We Have The Design We Can Almost Instantly Create The Physical Banner.

The Naming Of The Group Is Still Up In The Air So We'd Love To Hear Ideas For That,
Stand Out Name So Far Is "Citizens Mancuina" (Abbreviation "CM11")

I Think Thats It For Now,
Thanks Again For Your Time.

Okay mate & I might be. I love a good atmosphere at the match, I will do anything to improve it!

I'm not saying our atmosphere is rubbish, it's got better & better recently but hopefully we can up the atmosphere for every game.
