Newcastle (a) post match thread

Last summer is looking a bit strange now. Did we really need Mahrez? We obviously didn’t need an overhaul, but depth at left back and holding midfield was clearly needed and we didn’t get it.[/QUOTE]

We probably did need another wide player because if either of Sane or Sterling got injured we'd have had to change the system, especially with the plan to move Bernado into the centre this year. Obviously so far mahrez hasn't been very good and doesn't even look like he suits our style of play. Still can't believe we didn't sign another defensive midfielder too.

But he put out weak teams in the early rounds of the league cup. We've got 4 midfielders for 4 positions and that's not including Foden, the strikers keep swapping from game top game. It's just not an excuse for last night after a run of easy games. Walker can't fucking control a ball whilst nobody is within 15 yards of him consistently. If that's down to tiredness then it really is time to give up, they train every bloody day and they'll have had harder training sessions than most these recent matches.Taking it too easy and starting games with barely any tempo is a what's caught

Stangely Ronaldo and Messi seem to cope with constantly playing for about 15 years.
Yeah ok.

If Fernandinho isn't playing or has a bad game we lose.

He's been run into the ground.

All because the club didn't get a DM in the Summer and January.

Maybe that's why Pep looks so pissed off?

Shite performance, and topped off by several of our under-performing jokers fucking off down the tunnel at full time rather than acknowledging those of us who bothered to travel.
We needed a deputy for Dino and a reliable full back or two, yet all we did in the summer was spend a lot of money on a player for a position that was not a top priority.
Can't see the Dippers dropping points as the rags did in 2012, but we live in hope. And we've still got three cups to aim for.
That was commented on at the end of the game on BT. The commentator said that it looked like the City team couldn't wait to get off the pitch.

I generally agree to all of that,
but you know we did start quick! Went for a goal and scored, being a bit lucky the way it happened.

What annoys me most is the sad fact that our team is not able to manage the game when you feel it's not going too well up front.
We don't have the option to switch to a defensive "shut down shop" mode if we are winning, pulling them out to go for counters, the easy way.
Pep rules out that way.

We went for the next goal (and had loads of chances not being used, time and again...)
and instead of frustrating THEM by controlling the game,
they frustrated us (or we frustrated ourselves).
That's not too smart.
We have thrown away a winning match, again.

Instead of Pep's public "sometimes happen" I hope there is a very clear and open analysis and communication
WHY we are not able to win those matches although taking the lead.
Throwing away 3 matches within 5 weeks while being in a title race is... a problem.

In difficult situations Klopp's players kick the ball to row z, as you can handle an opponent throw quite well and win some time to reorganize.

Especially Danilo and Walker - also Fern - clearly need that option as well before they pass the ball back to the crowded centre
where opponent players are already waiting for the present.

Play it easy and sometimes don't do the technical brilliance.
You only have to win the match to get 3 points.
A good team can feel what is best during the game and is able to switch between different tactics.
You also need a good commucation to do so and I don't see that on the pitch.

We simply have to learn from those kind of defeats.
"Sometimes happen" is ignoring the problems.

It wouldn't have been given tho would it? Everyone was pissed off but the replay clearly showed the ref tell Kev to wait for the whistle. You can argue about the yellow but certainly not over it being disallowed. All this conspiracy bollocks is getting ridiculous. The 4 league games we've lost we've been shite in 3 and played brilliantly first half at Chelsea but didn't take our chances. Only got ourselves to blame. We had all this about cup draws being fixed against us not long ago. That one's gone quiet since we've started getting some of the easiest draws possible

Are you saying we were shite last night as well? Really? Were we that good? ;)

I'm talking about when we are leading a game mate, we have conceded 3 against Palace, 2 against Leicester now 2 against Newcastle, something is not right whether it's tiredness confidence whatever, but digging in and grinding out results is better than saving face.

Not got time to keep going round on this but most of the goals conceded in the games you refer to had little or nothing to do with digging in or not.
