Newcastle (a) post-match thread

Looking back we scored two away to Newcastle. That should be enough. Or inability to stop those useless ****s scoring two is a huge problem. As soon as we scored I had no confidence we could defend the lead because as soon as a team is forced to attack we crumble. We are defensively a shambles at this point in time. Why persist with dinho as cb when we’re dropping points anyway? Put him in his proper spot and hope Otamendi and stones find so,e form. Nothing to lose at this stage.
Especially against burley who lump it forward may way which should suit Otamendi.

Mendy needs a stern talking to and a change of mentality ASAP. He really needs extra work in training ground on fitness, passing and crossing...he needs more work on crossing as he was shit today. the only passes completed were nearly all sideways and backward passes....it s not good enough. if he gets one cross in a game ,or at least one chance to cross,it has to be top class or it is simply not good enough. i love mendy but he was shambolic today and the fans deserve more, he should just knuckle down for the next 6 weeks.
I honestly believe he has gone. I have seen it before in many players. He is crocked. Nothing wrong with his workrate. He worked hard up and down the line and saw lots of the ball but he is just not the same player. I have no problem at all with his attitude but his pace and mobility has been lost. It's a shame but City need to move on and he can try and re-build his career at a lower level. The injury he has had would finish most players' careers and that's the harsh reality. Before his injuries he always got past the defender and crossed low with pace. Now he just can't get past his defender and is hitting hopeful punts.

I know this is controversial, but when I watch some of his recent games, I would even seriously consider selling Sterling.

He is at the top of his value and for £200m, we might need to take one step backwards to take two forward?

Add that to £100m plus for Sane, and we can surely fill the team with more youthful quality.

On his day, Sterling looks a world beater, but there are times when he looks less than ordinary.

They thought Ferguson was mad to sell Ince, Stam and Van Nistelrooy, but he knew when to cash in and replace for the sake of moving forward again.

I would expect the majority to disagree with me but I think the market is bottoming out and we need to start thinking where this team of ours is going to be in a couple of years time.
Well I for one disagree. Why would (unsubstantiated) fear of a softening transfer market drive our plans?

And, although, I haven’t checked, weren’t the rags you mention much later in career than Sterling? He’s had a couple of of shitters recently but seizing on this as a key issue seems bizarre.

Is there any evidence at all that Mendy hasn’t been working hard this season? He’s obviously not playing great at the moment, but this is pretty unfair.

it s up to Mendy to prove people wrong.

Absolutely correct.

If we have that investment money burning a hole in our pocket (which I don’t think we actually do) how would it make sense to sell Sterling regardless of what the market is doing?

Tell you what is funny, expecting to win football matches by providing one fucking chance for your striker.

The better plan clearly was to just keep whacking crosses in as we do every fucking time unless we are 5-0 up, embarassing from Pep that he continues to allow this to happen every single time.
This is peps style though and we don’t have any other options to change the style of game . It’s either this way or no other way. Jesus reading off offside is terrible tbh.

i am a fan but if a player has been dross,i ll call it. i am a fan of Mendy, his commitment has been falling short of what is expected. I can think of 6/7 incidents today where he had a chance to cross, he always hesitated and payed the possession pass instead(sideways or backwards), he lacked the confidence to cross instantly or at least make that split second call himself. He needs to work hard to win back fans and for himself as a professional. So far, we as fans have never seen the best of Mendy....not even close! He needs to step up in work and knuckle down or he ll only be remembered as a player for all the wrong reasons. He has lots to offer ,he just not given it long term thus far at City.
