There are still drawbacks in having a gk as captain. Kompany is brilliant when there is a flare up anywhere on the pitch. He's immediately in there arguing our case with the ref. He frequently chats to the ref during the course of the match. It's much more difficult for a gk to get in the refs ear

It's not a major problem. Buffon, Lloris and Casillias are proven that they are more than capable of combining both roles.

I'm going Stones as he is evolving into proper captain material. Good to see him fit again.

Otamendi for me short term, or walker, mendy a possible if and when he returns, however i would prefer a player who's been here at least 3 years, that would also allow for stones in the not too distant future. my preference is a central defender or fullback as they can see the game developing in front of them. i wouldn't give to silva or KDB for the simple reason i would prefer them to concentrate on what they do best without worrying about other things on the pitch.

I think fernandinho, easy choice for me, plays every week and a natural leader. Saying that I believe there are a few captains capable, them being, stones, walker, otamendi and of course kdb. I could say David Silva but let him do his magic and concentrate on his own game and let A another worry about the rest. We are lucky to have so many potential candidates, but id stick with what I said for now. May I add, few have said Ederson, never fancied a keeper as a captain no matter how good he is, and yes he is very good but it needs to be someone involved in the game!

I'd give it officially to Otamendi for the next few years (hope we can keep him for at least that long). Give it to Stones when he hits 25/26. By then Silva, Aguero, Yaya, Nico and Bravo will be gone, making Stones one of the longest-serving players.

David and Kevin both lead by example and I get the impression captaincy wouldn't weigh heavily on their shoulders. Other players look up to them.

Why do we need a specific captain?

When Pep took over he said he’ll let the players decide each game and to be honest I don’t think whoever we picked would do a bad job. Even if they were struggling we’ve got enough characters and personalities in the dressing room these days to sort it out between them.
