He had already starred in at least two Bond films before The Hill, and it wasn't a honorary Oscar for The Untouchables it was For Best Supporting Actor which is usually recognised as one of the top 4
Its common knowledge that it was a sympathy Oscar because hes a bloody terrible actor . Look at Highlander. What a terrible film. A Frenchman playing a Scot and Scot playing a Spaniard.

Not saying he's the worlds best but you can't say he didn't go on to other things after Bond.

Not after a row Mac. Look at the facts. Which ex Bond actor gets a big role after that. Brosnan. The latest one resorted to fucking about in an ABBA musical.

Lol, not after a row either ;-)

Not disputing that some of the other Bonds were pretty dire actors on the whole but Connery made the best of what he had and at least some of his other roles had some diversity.

So far weve had a Scot , an Aussie , an Englishman , back to a Scot , English again ., a Welshman , a Northern Irishman and back to an englishman.
My money would be on someone that the British public know. Well established and known.
Ewan Macgreggor could fit the bill. At about the right age too.

His wooden delivery and dead eyes would suit Bond. Good call.

I think Elba is too charismatic to be Bond to be honest.

Stand corrected. Irishman that moved to England at an early age.. . Still done nothing decent since his Bond role.

the tailor of panama, thomas crown affair, the matador and after the sunset are all decent enough films from brosnan since bond. same with dalton he does mainly stage acting but the parts he has had on screen since have been good ones. also the actor who most played bond as the books intended
As for connery to say he is a bad actor is daft not the best but not the worst watch the bride turns in a great performance

and those who don't know who idris is waych the wire or luther

I love the fact that in this thread, 'Bond' has no scope to move beyond the parameters the name is shackled in to.

Apart from what I said earlier, 'Bond' is most likely a code name in this era and '007' a code number. Shock! Horror! that these 'fictional facts' would usually be moved on in lieu of a fictional agent's fictional demise.

And lo, one could essentially hand this fictional mantle to any other fictional denomination that speaks the Queen's english and is a fictional agent of a fictional department within MI6.

*sigh*

He could be fictionally black too! I expect at the end of Skyfall where it announces the next film stating 'Bond will be back' to actually say 'Bond will be black' with a super sized afro.

I hope I'm not being too ridiculous?
