Oh dear.

Messi isnt the greatest player ever. That'd be Pele.

Pele (the greatest ever) only ever played in Brazil and USA. Scoring 620 goals in 661 league appearances.

Having said that he didn't play in 'european football' so it doesn't count does it?

I said considered by many, which you can't deny is true. I don't even feel the need to wage into the greatest ever debate because at 21 years old I've not seen enough of the likes of Maradonna and especially Pele to make a judgement on who is the greatest player ever.

many idiots yes.

And say what you like about Brazilian/American football, it is some distance off the level of European football at the minute.

The only way we'll ever know if Neymar is as good as Messi is when he come over to European football , and when that happens, I'm pretty sure he won't be as good as Messi

but you originally said there was 'no chance'. Now you're saying you'll 'never know', then your changing your mind again to being 'pretty sure'.

We dont need to continue do we?

We never will definitively know until he makes the move to Europe, but I'm pretty sure he won't be. Maybe no chance was abit strong

Said this a while back in an earlier post...We need that one major creative element now to become a complete force. We have an exceptional squad at the minute, but to improve we need to go to the next level. And by buying a player that will one day become the best in the world is the right way to go about.

Nar, he won't .

At 21 (one year older than Neymar is now) Messi fired Barca to the treble , scoring 38 goals in all competitions during the process. And this is in European football.

Messi at 25 years old is now considered by many to be the greatest footballer that's ever lived.

Neymar may turn out to be a quality player when he eventually comes to Europe, but as good as Messi ? No chance for me

I like you how say this like it's a fact. I think most people consider Maradona as a superior player to Pele anyway, and by the end of his career Messi will clearly be the best of all time.

His goal earlier, he is a delight to watch. He only played for Brazil yesterday but wanted to play his 200th game for Santos today and scored. Not the first time he's played two times in two days as the Brazilian league doesn't go on a break for the national team. 119 goals in 200 games.

He did this in the same match as well.

The guy is a pleasure to watch, maybe not the next Pele but definately the next Ronalinho.

Maradonna was a genius but never been in the same league as Pele.

Who are these 'most people' you talk about? They clearly no fuck all about football.

Pele scored 1281 goals in 1363 games.

Pele is the all time leading goalscorer for Brazil (77 in 92)

Pele is the only player ever to have 3 world cup winners medals

In 1999, he was voted Football Player of the Century by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics. In the same year French weekly magazine France Football consulted their former Ballon D'Or winners to elect the Football Player of the Century. Pelé came in first place. In 2000 he was crowned FIFA Player of the Century.

Pele is the best ever and would eat Maradonna and Messi for breakfast at the same fucking time with one arm tied behind his back. Stop embarrassing yourself.

Might as well count Messi's youth goals and the 1000 goals he's probably scored in training and playing around with his friends, because that's the only way Pele can get to the 1281 goals you quoted.

Pele was a great player and was a big reason for the success of his club and country at the time, but technically Maradona and Messi are superior. Hope I didn't embarrass myself any more with this post!

Getting too off topic now. Back on topic, I'd love to see Neymar here.

Think it's a generational thing to be honest. For example I've grown up seeing replays of Maradona's goal against England in 86 (not the handball, which as I didn't exist at the time all I think about that is that it was hilarious) and his mad skills while playing for Napoli, yet I was too young to notice his original decline into coke fuelled obesity, so I've got a very rose tinted view of him, whereas all I've seen of Pele is him as an old man and grainy black and white footage. Same goes for all the great European and Brazilian players of the 60's/70's. I've only really seen players of the late 80's and 90's in their prime.

Right now I class Messi as the best in the world because I've seen him consistently make an absolute mockery of opposing defenders and midfielder's for the last 3/4 years and think CRonaldo's a rag prick, yet neither of them are in their prime yet. Point being it's entirely subjective. There is no definite answer to "Who is the best football player of all time" and there wont be a non-subjective answer until we're all dead and gone.

As for Neymar, all I've seen are flashes of absolute beauty and his stupid floppy haircut. But what I have seen is genius, the same kind of genius that I first saw from Messi and (as much as it pains me to say it) CRonaldo. If City could get him it would be madness not to sign him, if only for the commercial aspects alone. He's one of the few 'big money' signing's where it can't really be questioned.
