Neymar

Neymar is a brilliant talent who will transcend the easy stereotypes about flair players in English football. He is a better talent than Oscar who is light as a feather and doing really well at Chelsea. He would dive and make a scene a lot but he is a lot more professional than Balotelli and would probably grow out of that (plus the way things are going with United and referees, maybe we need some gamesmanship in our team).

With all that said, I still think he's Spain bound but if we could grab him we should. It'd be similar to when Barcelona signed Ronaldinho with our CEO and Director of Football involved in that deal.

Barca already paid 10M and another 30M will follow if they'll want to sign him. And he'd have to pay 20M if he won't want to join Barca. So this kid would cost us 60M.

Would be a worthy investment, speculate to accumulate... something our owners will know all about. Neymar would be the face of Manchester City and is the next big star of world football after Messi and Ronaldo. No manager in the world would turn down the chance to have him.

Well, probably 50, so that Santos still get the 30m on top of the 10 for the lad

45-60 million for a 20 year old completely unproven outside of the mighty Brazilian League.

Yep, sounds like a bargain......

A forward/winger/attacking mid with pace and ability is what we need, and Neymar fits the bill but I just can't see this one. I'm trying to think of one who may be available. Pedro would be ideal but unless Neymar moved there today it won't happen and even then would be very unlikely.
Lavezzi possibly? If we're to believe reports that he's unhappy.
I like James at Porto a lot but although he's not slow, he's not got Pedro or Lavezzi's pace. And we'd have to deal with Porto.
Looking at a couple of youngsters, Labyad? But he's just moved. Deulofeu? Again, little chance. It's a position I think we need to sign an established player though and I'd feel uncomfortable buying youth here unlike many positions such as a regista.
Either way, it's a position that needs filling in my view.

Yet the two best teams in the world are willing to pay it, what does that tell you? High risk, high rewards.

I believe Balague said he wants to play with Messi. Yes, he'd be great but we should have more realistic targets.

Isco and Benat for me.

Ben Arfa and Halilovic or Iturbe for me.

You've mentioned Iturbe a lot but he is not living up to his potential. Look at this from a Porto fan on another forum:

[Iturbe has] been playing for Porto B and even there he´s not capable of making a decent match.
We are starting to be afraid he may be a flop, we were going to start playing him on the team this season but he failed to perform every time he was given the chance. He´s still very young but the club is apprehensive about him.

And Halilovic is 16, if we signed him it'd be for the youth team. Isco and Benat would go straight into first team plans. Ben Arfa is good but I don't think he is a Mancini type player at all, questionable attitude and doesn't like to track back much which got Johnson a lot of criticism.

He's proving himself for the Brazil national team with 16 goals in 25 international appearances not bad going is it?

That record is skewed in a way. The Brazil national team has deliberately played against weak opponents in friendlies to pick up points in order to improve their FIFA ranking and to appease anxious Brazilian supporters.

They still struggle against fast, physical teams in Europe, Africa, etc. Neymar sill becomes invisible against such teams.

They play easy friendlies because the FA is paid good money to play over in Europe to make money. Also if you look at the results for the past 2 years they have only played a couple of really easy friendlies and beat Argentina back in September and guess who scored in that game

-- Mon Nov 05, 2012 9:55 am --

Are you talking about Yaya Toure ?
No, he's not. Picture Yaya on the ball on the edge of a crowded penalty area.

In a crowded penalty area, you need Ben Arfa.
One day you will understand why this world beater plays for Newcastle with no big teams interested
Go bum Hazard

I don't think for a second we are an option for Neymar. He surely is Barca-bound, and if we do indeed express and show an interest in him, it must be a part of some sort of behind-the-scenes-game, as if we want someone from Barca, and if we do not get him we will drive the price tag up for Neymar.

I hear we are doing a straight swap: Roque Santa Cruz for Neymar. Cant reveal my sources though.

Sounds a decent source

IF we hadn't been in so much of a rush to get rid of Savic - we could have tempted santos with that as a swap......................

Sigh... we can dream i guess

This isn't happening - this guy will move to spain after the world cup

No way we can accommodate samba football in the EPL.

As someone mentioned, it sounds like Bobby deliberately dropped his name to muck up any trace of transfer scent, relating to either Barca players with whom tabloids would inevitably link and speculate or other potential targets of ours.
