Premier League giants Manchester City have decided to enter the high-stakes race to sign Brazilian sensation Neymar, with an offer that might just be enough to blow away the competition.

Neymar has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona during the past few months, but ever their rivals, Real Madrid have decided to spoil the party and move in on the Brazilian striker.

It is believed that Barcelona already have a pre-contract agreement with the Neymar camp but Los Blancos sought to smash through that by attempting to lure the Santos sensation with an audacious €100M bid.

Neymar, for his part, has denied any claim of an agreement with the Blaugrana, and has also reiterated that he is fully committed with Santos at least until his contract expires in 2014.

Enter Manchester City, who have placed themselves in prime position to sign the centre-forward as they are believed to be preparing a mind-blowing €138M bid, according to Spanish TV programme Punto Pelota.

The news comes amidst speculation that current Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini is set to take over at the Etihad Stadium come next season. The Chilean tactician has spent over €257M on transfers during his brief stay at Real Madrid.

Why did Santos even agree to that pre-contract deal with Barca? I don't see what they get from it.

Because it was easy money for them; Barcelona apparently paid them 10m euros.

Surely in the long run they're going to lose out on more than 10m when they have to sell to Barca for a much lower fee because of how much leverage Barca have over everyone else in the fight for his signature?

I was thinking about this the other day, Santos have pretty much let themselves be trapped into a corner by Barcelona when they agreed a pre-agreement.

Neymar's transfer could easily of started a bidding war between Barca, Real, PSG, City, United, Bayern, Chelsea and possibly Monaco, with a fee fetching up to anything around 60-80m simply because of the marketing ability the lad has.

It would not suprise me Barca getting him for around 40m, maybe less.

Either way, I bet they regret the pre-agreement.

If that pre-agreement is true it does not stipulate that Neymar has to be sold for around £20 - £40m does it ?

surely this is why Real have flown over representatives this week as well according to the press in Spain, so that they can outbid Barca.

If Barca manage to get Neymar for £20m then Santos have dropped an almighty bollock

The thing with the pre-agreement is that if another club comes in and signs Neymar, they have to pay Barca 40m compensation for Santos to break the pre-agreement contract.

Clever from Barca.

Lol at that,Thats really going to happen with FFP. Wait a year and could get Bale for 50, add Falcoa for 50 and leaves 38 mill spare. Laughable claim

They might as well get £30m for him now than lose him for nothing next year; Santos are just trying to get more money out of Barcelona.

You say that though but Neymar is the most marketable athlete/ sportsman in the world, if he is marketed correctly you would make the transfer back and more... the image and profile of the club would become so big in South America let alone Europe and Asia.

Huge, huge gamble though.

Is he though? Really? Surely Ronaldo, Messi, Xavi, our very own Agueroooo plus quite a few others (Bale?) are more marketable, and better players. What is so good about Neymar? He's just a young, average striker who's only proven in his home league. I just don't get all the hype. If anyone spent £30m+ on him instead of Bale or Falcao they must be mad.
