Neymar

I agree with a lot of your reasoning, but the only thing I'd say to the bold bit is that, in recent years, the club has (to some degree or another) courted Messi, Ronaldo, and even Dani Alves. Even Kane is an example of an older, big name star that we clearly wanted very much last year (still under 30 though, so not quite the same).

I think, when it comes to really big names, the club is willing to make an exception to the focus on young players. And, like him or loathe him, Neymar is a big name. He's the closest thing we've got right now to what Ronaldinho was back in the day, and despite his age, he's still got a lot of that pace and trickery he had in his early 20s.

I'd imagine he's got a good few seasons left at the top before hanging up his boots, and that's why, at least for Neymar himself, this move would make some degree of sense. He can see that the PSG project hasn't gone to plan and he could decide to try one last big transfer, work with the coach he's always admired, test himself in a far tougher league, and see if he can have a more rewarding and fulfilling final few years.

Or he can carry on living the easy life in Paris.
Fair point about Messi, Ronaldo and Alves. I wonder if this one will go the same way and he'll end up elsewhere, or just stay put.

That's the thing. It isn't his knowledge of transfers that's the problem. He is supposed to be a City reporter. When an issue came up that could really have been an existential problem (to the project at least), and when he really could have made a stand-out name for himself, he listened to the wrong people and came to the wrong conclusions. It's a difficult road back from that.

No way back for me.
That's the United fan in him. Wanting it to go a certain way without using a common sense approach

There are so many good and informative articles that could be written about City and the last decade and a half. They don't have to be puff pieces, they could be investigative, as long as they are neutral and present facts as much as facts can be determined, or at least both sides of a situation.

Such a good opportunity for a City correspondent, any City correspondent, to make a name for himself.

Because in 10 years, he will have been the first amongst many.

It makes a tiny bit of sense of you're willing to make some jumps of logic.

9320 has never done this before. He's never been cloak and dagger about a transfer. This season however, very early on, I want to say like May or so, he point blank named Sterling out and Jesus to Arsenal but then said he's heard about someone big coming but his source was sworn to secrecy on it. As I say, this isnt his usual MO in how he talks about transfers.
People speculated for a day or two then moved on. Then he came on the other day, possibly intoxicated, and alluded to Neymar.
Now, Neymar has been a problem to PSG this year in that his contract was going to roll over on July 1 which gave him an extension and a hefty loyalty/signing on bonus. One which I'm sure PSG would rather did not exist.
Transfers usually takes months from start to finish at that level. I do wonder if City and Neymars camp were having exploratory talks a few months back with 9320s guy found out about, but the Neymar camp was adamant on a much higher level of secrecy than usual. Because potentially if PSG find out he's wanting to leave then they could quick flog him before his new bonuses kick in, or argue with him about not paying them as he's leaving.

Obviously I don't know if any of this is true but it makes sense as to why a guy who has never played these types of guessing games before on the forum, this one time was very clear in that the transfer was in discussion hut he could not talk about, until now in July when presumably bonuses are paid and the cat is now out of the bag.

Or maybe he got drunk and made up a name for some excitement and doesn't want to back peddle. I dunno.

I can't get my head around the Neymar links.

What's not to get? It is runaway collective excitement, slowly built into part belief it might come off.

It started with a totally throw-away comment by TH at a point early in the summer about a signing that would would melt the internet, one he didn't homself know who, although the timing coincided with talks with Pogba. And he has himself acknowledged that likelyhood. It built up hundreds of pages based on nothing more than that alone. Then 93.20 l teases it as well, with enough suggestion it is Neymar, so now a lot of that early belief is set.

There are no links. There isn't really any meaningful logic either. It is most likely just momentum of speculation gone a bit rogue. Watch it play out. Amongst other business going on in the wondow and pre-season preparations.

Forgive my ignorance but I’ve no idea what you mean. What’s he done now? What are the WhatsApp cunts?

Genuine question btw.
The WhatsApp cunts are a group of bitter Deluded “journalists” (Miguel delooney, maybe Simon Cuntis and I think some others) who genuinely had a joint WhatsApp’s chat where they’d all share ‘leads’ and how bad city were. At some point Sam Lee was included and talked about the inclusion teaching him a lot.
He still actually talks to them all.
Also, don’t forget this tweet in which he “obviously” gets the hate we and PSG get for our ownership.

Behind all his posturing Sam hates us and I hate him.

But on the actual topic of Neymar, I don’t believe it’ll happen at all

Spent the last few seasons generally doing very little in the ridiculously easy French league. Why on earth would we be interested in a player with such little interest in challenging himself, when he's supposed to be one of the best. A big no thanks for me.

Yet we got beaten by this easy french league team not named PSG in Chumps League few season ago.

There's more to meet than eyes can telling you from this League.

Because he has fanboys who live in a fantasy world of twitter truth.

Neymar is the total opposite of what City buy. Non-starter.

Delaney is just a poor journalist, he let's his agenda against us dominate every aspect of his reporting. Its a sure sign of lack of professionalism. When someone has that kind of agenda it's so obvious to everyone and makes any point he has regardless if any truth in it totally irrelevant. That's why its best to ignore what he says and certainly not get annoyed by it, all in the knowledge that everyone knows his opinion is ridiculous.

On the wages aspect as well - I posted a quote the other day from Neymar suggesting that he would like to play at the top for a few years then go to the US and back home to Brazil.
Potentially we could accommodate all of that in his contract. So while he might take a lesser wage here on the Haaland or KDB level, it could be backloaded and paid more if we moved him to New York and then Bahia if that deal goes through, where UEFA dont have an influence.

Again, just a thought of how this could be possible if we presume the idea that it really is in discussion.

The rumour came from here and went to Twitter, not the other way around. And I'm not sure what you mean about the opposite.

Pep absolutely gushes about him. He once said that Barca selling him singlehandedly cost them 2 or 3 Champions Leagues. He said he loves him and his attitude to football. In the age thing, we were in talks with both Messi and Ronaldo who were older than Neymar is now. In terms of his defensive workrate, thats a myth. He has much stronger defensive stats than Sterling for example and is comparable to a Salah. In terms of his personality, well its not like we know the bloke. People slag off Ronaldo for his personality but everybody who ever works with him says he's a fantastic leader in the dressing room and always helps out his teammates so its hard to judge someone.

That’s it then. I’m in!

Pep - gushes about everyone, hes always complimentory no matter who.
Age - I dont know what age has to do with it. We play whoever at whatever age.
Ditto workrate but what / where are these stats that somehow show he's more workman than sterling?
Personality - Well yes we know the bloke. He rolls around the pitch feigning injury. He bitches about his team mates etc. They're not our teams qualities. He does that quite a lot. (I dont doubt he's a good player btw)
Ronaldo - a fantastic leader? Seriously? wtf, he was bitching on the pitch about his team mates, young players who needed encouragement he moaned about - And whats he doing now.... Fucking off rather than helping the club (He says) he loves.

When I say the opposite, I mean all the above - We dont employ people like that, our players work hard, dont complain, and support their team mates. Total and utter opposite of what Neymar is.

Here's a lovely video of Neymars skills
