Has there ever been a player who has won as much as he has and still felt like a huge disappointment?
When I saw him at Santos I thought he was going to be one of the best players of all time. Then he went to Barcelona and he seemed well on track. And now it feels like I've blinked and he's gone.
I can't stand him but it's still a shame because he is an incredible player. Just seems such a waste.
He didn't have much longevity but at least Ronaldinho reached the top of the mountain. This guy got most of the way to the top and then thought "fuck it, the view's good enough."
In Europe he has 359 games, 375 goals and assists. Nearly 30 trophies, Brazils all time top scorer.
It’s one of the most outstanding, incredible records of the last 50 years. The only reason people say he’s been a disappointment is because he didn’t play in England.

When did the likes of Ronaldo, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi etc play in England? It's got nothing to do with him not coming to the Premier League.
But I believe I addressed his achievements with the initial question:
That's the whole point; how does a player who has won so much and scored so many still feel like a disappointment?
Did you honestly see him in his early years and think this would be where he would end up? Playing half the available league games over six years and then disappearing off to Saudi Arabia?
His numbers and his medals are impressive but he could have been so much more.
He has the goals record of Aguero and the assist record of KdB what more did you want from him?
You and I both know you can't reduce football down to two numbers.
A bit rich considering In this case you seem to think it can be reduced to “did you win the Ballón d’or”, ignoring numbers, trophies, individual achievements and playing style.
Yeah I'm on this side of the fence. Brilliant brilliant player. Could walk into this City team which is arguably the best team of all time, alongside MSN Barca. Which he obviously also starred in. The lad could undoubtedly do it on a cold night in Stoke. Wish we could've worked a loan move out.He has the goals record of Aguero and the assist record of KdB what more did you want from him?
Another thing about Neymar that he never gets credit for is that he’s hard as nails.
If anyone has ever watched Ligue 1 matches regularly he gets the shit kicked out of him every single match, and the referees do not give a fuck.
Same thing in Brazil and in South American international matches.
Some of our best players would have retired before 30 with the treatment. Remember in 2018 when Pep went mad because KdB and Sterling got some bad tackles several games in a row? That’s Neymar entire career in France and Brazil.
He’s an incredible player that unfortunately in this country doesn’t ge the credit he deserves because people prefer to believe made up tabloid gossip instead.
And now you're putting words in my mouth. It's genuinely beneath you and not what I've come to expect from your comments over the years.
If you go back over my initial post, you'd maybe see that I've not really criticised him for anything other than not fulfilling what I thought was his potential.
I've not criticised him for not playing in England, I've not criticised him for playing in France and I've not blamed him for Brazil's lack of quality throughout his career. All I've said is that he's just not ended up being what I thought he would be.
Again, if you were watching him over a decade ago and thought this is how his career would go, then you and I had very different ideas about his capabilities.
Ronaldinho was by far the better player thoughIn Europe he has 359 games, 375 goals and assists. Nearly 30 trophies, Brazils all time top scorer. Treble winner with Barcelona.

Comparing him to Ronaldinho is mad, Neymar had a much better career, was a much better professional and if he’d been around in a time without Messi/Ronaldo he’d have multiple Balons d’Or.
When Iw atched him play for Santos I thought he'd never make it in Europe. Too flash, too lightweight. I was completely wrong.
Perhaps if you articulate what your expectations of him were you might make a convincing argument? So far you've just said a lot of vague stuff and that Ronaldinho won a balon d'or and neymar didn't.

Idk if this is just a joke but I have seen this idea put forward seriously soHappy for him that he's joined the football equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters, I hope they get invited into the CL it would piss the cartel off no end ;)

That wouldn’t just piss off the cartel it would piss off me and 90+% of fans as it would be fucking stupid. Saudi Arabia is nowhere near Europe.
It’s a European competition. If they want that level of competition, they should focus on improving the Asian Champions League - and getting people from Asia to actually watch that instead of European football. There are 4.7 billion people in Asia and only 700 million people in Europe. There is more than enough potential to grow the Asian Champions League and the Saudi Pro League to the level of top European competition without making a mockery of UEFA.
