Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced a five-year media rights agreement with UK public service broadcaster the BBC.Really that’s interesting, I do like watching the American feed as it seems more real with their commentators so will be interesting to see what this is like tonight
Coverage will start on 24th September with the third game of a four-match series between rivals the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, which will be streamed live on the BBC iPlayer service.
The game will be produced by the MLB Network and feature commentary geared towards a UK audience, with former Yankees player CC Sabathia, broadcaster Melanie Newman and podcast host Felix White all part of the commentary team.
In addition, the new deal will see the BBC provide free-to-air coverage of next year’s MLB London Series games between the Chicago Cubs and St Louis Cardinals. The agreement also includes future London Series fixtures in 2024 and 2026.
The agreement comes after MLB struck a five-year partnership with the city of London in May to continue staging regular season games in the British capital.
