NHS Pay Award, letter to Johnson from my union, please sign if you can

The question always comes around to

How do we get companies to pay what they can rather than what they can get away with.

No-one seems to have an answer, maybe there simply isn't one.

That question has become a lot harder to answer with in work tax credits. The state subsidies - aka endorses - low pay.

A good idea? yes. Being manipulated by firms? Probably

But I bet you haven’t lost 15%.

Mrs MB is a band 6 nurse. Inflation linked top of her band should be £43,078 and it is actually £37,890. So it looks like she is being underpaid by 13% (which I guess is where you are coming from), however she is also getting an extra £6,025 in tax free allowance since 2010 so she is actually about £900 better off than she was in 2010.

Band 5s are £2k better off, 4s nearly £3k better off, 3s nearly £4K better off. And that’s ignoring that you would have been paying MORE tax on those earnings so in actual fact you are taking home even more money than these numbers suggest.

Things aren’t always as they seem. You still deserve a decent pay rise though.

I was being a plonker and thinking you got 100% difference in the tax. Don’t ask, I can only blame it on COVID. So I’ve redone the numbers for top of bands and based on monthly take home pay this is what 2010 parity looks like.

Band 2 - £27 a month better off
Band 3 - about the same, £3 worse off
Band 4 - need 5% raise to get back to same, currently £66 a month worse off
Band 5 - need 7% raise, £115 worse off
Band 6 - need a 9% raise, £185 worse off
Band 7 - need a 7% raise, £187 worse off

Obviously that just gets back to inflation linked parity, it’s still not any sort of pay rise. Although of course progressing through the gateways and bands bring pay rises.

Let’s see what this week brings (if anything)

and 3 % it is
inflation currently 2.5%

Im off to celebrate with a beer
the cheap shit from aldi
No matter what offered some **** will write in right wing press it's not deserved...

Health and education should be paramount and front line staff in both deserve the best pay possible.

No matter what’s offered some **** will write in the right wing press it's not deserved and some **** on the left will claim it’s not enough.

Health and education should be paramount and front line staff on low wages in both deserve the best pay possible under the current circumstances.

Edited for balance and propa English with gramma and everyfink:-)

Wasn't the pay freeze to close the gap with the private sector? What was the point if we just undo it again here.
