all good to big up players etc but saying he's having a better season than Stones is stretching it

Really? Otamendi barely put a foot wrong this season before yesterday.

I think both have been high quality (apart from a few times when Stones has been out of position and a few times when Ota was diving in yesterday) - indistinguishable if one has been better than they other other than yesterday really. Which is why i'm not that bothered about Kompany being out as i think Stones and Otamendi are building a good partnership.
 
Biggest problem with Otamendi is he goes from one extreme to the other. You cant trust which one is going to turn up from week to week. You hope its the one that looks as good as any defender in the country but far too often the headless chicken one turns up.

Hahahah I'm the same.

People confuse aggression and front footed defending with being a good form of defending. It is, if you get it right 90% of the time and have someone to cover your arse the other 10% of the time. Otamendi lost about as much as he won last season with no one wiping his arse up behind him and this year he's not on Stones' level. He has markedly improved however.
 
Bit like Kolorov, give him the likes of Bournemouth and teams from the bottom 8 down and he is fine. Put him up against decent sides who put pressure on and he is not as good. The free kick he gave away on the edge of the box yesterday when he couldn't resist the slide on his arse almost cost us and he was slow to watch their runner for the 2nd goal. He is not a top class defender for me. If we could get Kompany fit, he and Stones would be the two starters in the big games. I cant see it though with Kompany's injury record.
