Nigel Farage

As for that bellend Farage, he only popped up again with his Brexit Party because our politicians couldn’t come up with a Brexit deal. I wasn’t aware of a deal between him and Johnson - if anything, Farage wanted an even harder Brexit than we got. Now he’s finally got what he wanted, he’s well and truly finished in British politics, hence why he’s on the other side of the Atlantic whipping up the far right.
You mean he's got no easy way to make money over here, so he's gone to America to whip up the far right instead. Farage would have been happy to stay in the EU forever if it allowed him to keep is cushy MEP job, do no work, and constantly moan about leaving it.

The people that Sunak and Truss are now desperately trying to court are the same that offer Farage a route in to British politics. They have been disgusted for thirty years, bemoan the way young people are, speak beautifully of halcyon days of yore, and believe that this nation is the innocent victim of those who wish to damage it, reach it, or impose rules upon it just because 'they' have always hated us. It is why Truss and Sunak offer nothing new, because what they are trying to do is to win the vote of Royal Tunbridge Wells and that vote is triggered by the past - a return to lost values, lost status and a day when you could leave your back door open. Farage triggers it with the enemy being the dinghy, the bureaucrats of Brussels, or 'the woke': it is the Daily Mail headline dressed up in Union Flag loafers and a guffaw and it doesn't want to listen, or adapt, because it is their way or none...no solution just an identification of what is wrong, in their eyes, as they twitch their drapes and monitor that new neighbour from...

All correct, but in the absence of something else to capture the imagination that blend of populism and paranoia will keep winning votes (and elections).

Actually winning the vote was the last thing many of the Brexit proponents expected or actually wanted, as they were fully aware of the shit show that would follow.

Although it’s becoming more obvious, by the day, where our problems lie and it’s nothing to do with Europeans.
