North Stand Construction Discussion

I agree with everything you’re saying. But calling it the Kippax isn’t going to make the blindest bit of difference.

When the Kippax went all seating, the atmosphere was no better than the East Stand is now.

Names don’t make an atmosphere, people do.

Our away support is mega, so there’s clearly appetite from at least a few thousand to stand and sing and make an atmosphere.

But the people who are going to drive an atmosphere are lads in their late teens and 20s. Probably the same as you were when you stood on the Kippax.

A lot of them will have been kids when Aguero scored that goal, and wouldn’t have even been born when the Kippax was a thing.

And far from being “wanky” I see it as a positive naming the stand after the best moment in the history of the club. Possibly in the history of the English game.

We should celebrate that, while also keeping it as a permanent reminder to the shite that the best stand in the country and an iconic building for the city is named after the moment that changed the balance of power and broke their hearts.

Sometimes I wish we could go back in time too. But we can only go forward.

Correct.

Our young, teen, mid-twenties, vocal and future support associate the North stand with the Sergio Agüero goal that changed the clubs history forever. It’s the most famous PL goal ever and will probably remain that.

TBH I was amazed the club didn’t name the North stand the Sergio Agüero stand when Sergio left. Much more fitting than a statue.(which along with the other 2 states is good)

I would have absolutely have no problem in standing on the Sergio Agüero stand, level 2.

In previous FFP income from infrastructure was included maybe, in the new version it would be excluded? The Tweet was referring to costs of stadium expansion not being excluded, along with Academy and the Women's team costs which is a bit odd but on the face of it, it appears to be so
Infrastructure spending was excluded but I think it might now be included. Could depend on what it’s spent on originally it was all rightly seen as good for the long term future of clubs but I suspect UEFA etc are worried that clubs will spend big on infrastructure for little benefit Financial and in a footballing sense but use it to have a competitive advantage over other clubs

I give an example and exaggerate it to make the point let’s say the sheik spent 10 billion on the campus knocked down the stadium built a new one built arenas and Disneyland Manchester and then for whatever reason it only made 20 million in footballing terms that would probably be very worth while even with the inflated market people are still finding bargains but it’s hardly good business and it’s not really fair on other clubs.

I don’t agree with your point about names don’t make atmosphere. I think calling it the kippax psychologically would make a difference. I’d immediately associate that with a singing section/ home end and I think more people would move into it willing to sing.

Picking player names for stand is difficult as well. Yes aguero made a huge difference, but someone like bert trautman is equally as deserving. Or there might be a player in the future who wins us multiple champions leagues who deserves a stand naming after them. History is important as well and we can’t ignore the kippax just because people weren’t born when it existed.

And this co op arena with it's 32 bars that are open 7 nights per week. I cannot imagine a group of young people deciding to give freight island or the Northern quarter a miss, and get a taxi to Beswick to sit drinking cocktails looking out across City's car park, or marveling at the gas holder or cemetery. I love your optimism, but c'mon.
Can you imagine young people 20 years ago going into Ancoats for a micro-brewery beer and Michelin starred meal?

The city centre continues to expand, but so far mainly to the south - 'city centre' flats now extend as far as Cornbrook. If you come out of Piccadilly towards the north or east, it could still be 30 years ago. Mayfield Depot is the first area being done, but that will continue to expand with the HS2 station and other investment that will continue to push outwards. Much of the land between the centre and the Etihad is low value industrial or derelict that will easily be moved on when that value increases. As for the houses, well look what's happening around Smedley Gap to see what happens when big money arrives.

CFG isn't here to make a profit next year or even in the next 10 years. That was the mistake others were making in 2008 with comments about what happens when he gets bored.

Calling it the Kippax won’t magically bring atmosphere but it will bring people. It’s a name associated with a stand where the most hardcore singers are located.

When people get asked ‘Have you seen the new Kippax? We could move there?’, it’s a lot more attractive and more exciting than ‘Have you seen the new north stand?’. That’s because it provides an instant emotional connection that will mean more people will want to be part of it.

The Kippax standing was knocked down 30 years ago you've got to be approx 40 to remember it. How much emotional attachment do late teens and twenty odd year old have to it, as they are the ones we need to attract to create the atmosphere in the new NS2.
I would personally go with the 9320 end.

I wonder if we stated our intentions in 2015-6 and any new regs won’t apply, they’ve obviously waited for Madrid to get their house in order, rags & Barca are one to keep an eye on, manyoonited World etc, our owners are smart & I reckon we committed to the scheme a long time ago, if they want to start backdating things we can start at the Stanley park £50M black hole

Naive and wishful thinking.

There won’t be any supper casino. Been, never happened, gone! Never to return.

The House of Lords last night threw out controversial plans to site a supercasino in Manchester, despite Tessa Jowell's last-ditch attempt to win back support with a package of concessions.

A fatal amendment - passed by three votes - forced the culture secretary's gambling reforms back to the drawing board, rejecting 16 smaller venues as well as the Las Vegas-style casino.

You need to do a bit more research and reading about what has been proposed for the Collar site and wider surrounding Etihad Campus.

There are forum members who have been following the development of the wider Etihad Campus for decades. There are other forum members who have first hand knowledge or an insight of what’s going via connections to the club or to people working on the proposals, that most of us don’t have. At times that information/snippets have been shared on this thread.

Again. Why don’t you go down to the exhibition today or when you’ve got time and speak to the people directly involved in the proposal who know what’s going on and can answer your questions and ‘concerns’.
I agree with your comments but whatever goes on the Campus Super Casino or the more likely stuff mentioned on here it will help the whole area help the club and help the facilities already planned
