North Stand Construction Discussion

Citizens is and always has been the official nickname of Manchester City. It was quite common when I was growing up. The use of Cityzens is a poor play on the word. I had this scarf in the 70s.

It has always been the “official” nickname, if that isn’t an oxymoron but it seems to work the exact opposite way of most nicknames.

They usually come about purely through common usage and then get adopted as official.

With City it seems like we’ve always been told that’s our nickname for some reason but nobody actually ever uses it as such.

I honestly don’t think I have ever heard a single person shout…. Come on you Citizens.

Is it either?

I’ve been reading all my life how it’s the nickname of Manchester City but can’t actually recall any fan using it to describe the club, the team or themselves, ever.
It’s our nickname. The fact a lot of people don’t know it, simply adds to its kudos.

93:20 changed everything for me

So many players we could pick from the last 10 years at least but 93:20 is everyone on that day, scored at that end?

93:20 North Stand
Sergio Aguero Stand
Vincent Kompany Stand
David Silva Stand
Bert Trautman
Mike Summerbee
Mike “I won’t ever come back to Maine Road after the abuse my son got” Summerbee?
Great player but he soon changed his melody when we moved to the Etihad

Because we shout ‘come on City’ or ‘Come on you blues’. I bet Geordies don’t shout ‘Come on Magpies’ or West Brom shout ‘Come on Throstles’ or Leeds ‘Come on Peacocks’ either. However, they are the official nicknames and have been for over a century, just like ours.

When was the last time you heard a United fan call themselves a Rag?

The Coach Wreckers who stand on the KOP call themselves Kopites.

I’m not calling myself a Centurion. Lol!

I’m telling you all now, the Centurion stand will never catch on or be accepted by the majority of City fans who will stand on it. It’s nothing more than marketing guff thought up by the suits at City, that can be rolled out to name the hotel, bar and restaurant over looking the pitch. The Centurion name has no affinity whatsoever with your average City fan now, bar the memory of when the 100 points record was achieved at Southampton. Does that really warrant a stand and a new home end naming after it? No it doesn’t!!

It’s just a name though mate? If the ticket prices are great, transport issue sorted, maybe physical banners allowed back and a full lads singing section who actually cares about the name really?

I don’t even accept an official nickname as being a thing. Who decides what an official nickname is? The whole point of a nickname is they it’s an unofficial term of endearment. Or abuse sometimes.

I also bet if you asked a thousand Leeds fans what their nickname is, 999 of them would say “whites” Fucking Peacocks? Literally never heard that apart from the boozer.

And West Brom’s is baggies.
