It sounds hokey but even just calling the expanded upper tier ‘The Kippax’ would make a lot of singers want to move there. It provides an instant emotional connection and people will feel good about telling others that they’re ‘in the Kippax’. You can imagine people saying ‘I wouldn’t mind moving to that new Kippax they’re building’ compared to ‘fancy moving to that new north stand?’.

it is highly UNLIKELY that NSL2 will be safe standing.

Safe standing will only be installed in L1s.

NSL2 will have seats like SSL3.

I won’t go into the reason why, but singers at the back of 115 have been moved out of there and have been forced to disperse to other parts of SSL1. Or as the club would argue, back to their seats. Stewards have now been put in that area. Without doubt that decision by the club has had a negative impact on the support from the South stand, and in-turn the atmosphere inside the Etihad. Those are the fine margins when it comes to creating an atmosphere at the Etihad.

He did, he said people had congregated with the singing section and the club has stopped this and made them go back to their seats

That’s not true.

Everything is still early stages and anything could happen. Could still end up being three tiers for all we know.

Club have told me it’s likely to be two tiers with focus on atmosphere across the whole stand.

Foot ball for me started in 1947 and that was long before '92 so I have lots of memories of Maine Road but I want them to be memories and look foward with what time I have left to look to the future and not the past.
Nostalgia aint what it used to be.

I think we’re all agreed keeping the North Stand name after the North stand expansion really isn’t appropriate. “We are the North stand!”(arf!)

The sensible thing to do is to let the fans chose from a list of stand names. Say 4 or 5 names? If the voting is close on 2 of the names, whittle it down and let the fans pick either of those 2 names. If there‘s a clear fans favourite, the club should go with that name.

PS. I honestly thought City were going to name the North stand the Sergio Aguero stand when Sergio retired. The North stand will always be remembered as the end where Sergio scored that famous PL title winning goal. :-)

not a fan of naming stands after players, prefer south stand north stand.. Its a bit of a pantomime when they give stands a long player name..

I still think it should be called the 93:20 stand, but they’ve named bar areas after that so not to be.

It should officially be called 'The New Kippax Stand'.

The area behind (essentially a covered City square between two buildings) should be renamed Kippax Square.
