North Stand expansion - seating, ticketing etc

Depends on how the club do it. For instance let’s says loads of fans move from ss1 or ss3 - will those fans seats then be replaced with expensive match day tickets?

If that’s the case, that could make the atmosphere worse. Ideally with fans moving it should mean more season tickets or at least the opportunity.

I’d argue the kippax corner section has become worse noise wise, as lots of fans moved into ss3
I'd be surprised if there were many relocating out of SS3 to the new stand, especially the mid and rear sections as they are far cheaper than anywhere else in the stadium.

If the 8000 supporters in the stand can’t create an atmosphere then that’s on them - not the 600 at the front of the stand.

People comparing the Spurs end are not making a fair comparison. Spurs had a purpose built stadium which allowed them to create the required hospitality space in the other stands and keep the end for atmosphere.

City haven’t got that option. They have kept the premium seats to the minimum which won’t make a difference to atmosphere.

How many singers will even relocate ? A couple of thousand maximum ?. The other 6000 seats will be taken by tourists, new fans or randoms or non regular fans.

Maybe some will see it as an opportunity missed - but the stand was built for commercial reasons not to take a gamble that atmosphere would improve.
City do have that option.

Just like they had the option to move everyone out of the North Stand to create the Family Stand, or 215 to create 93:20, or 207/221/222 to create Joe’s, or 125-127 to creat the Tunnel Club… City could create a full 201-231 Hospitality tier and make 104-106 a second kind of Tunnel Club, and leave the North Stand Level 2 expansion to what it is designed for (deep roof, deep tier grouping a mass of fans together) - an atmosphere stand.

What if they put more rail seats in it and they can't fill it because of that ? 3000 to start and more iv the demand is there is a perfect compromise
If adding/removing rail seats is so flexible, it wouldn't be an issue.

Surely, the biggest risk here is if they are hugely oversubscribed for rail seats and they can't accommodate that demand in time (leading to big missed opportunity).

All survey data showed there is huge demand for rail seating in the new North Stand Level 2.

The problem we have is that every week there is an excuse why the atmosphere is shit.

Acoustics, too cold, kick off times, tourists, style of play, can’t hold a card above our heads, hang flags etc etc etc.

The reason the atmosphere is shit is cause there are only a few hundred that consistently sing - located in different areas. 3 stands holding 40 odd thousand supporters do not make a peep for 99% of home games.

A new stand with 8000 seats together might make a difference but who knows.

I’ve yet to see anything which has identified how many would be willing to move. If it’s less that 3000 then why is anybody moaning about 600 premium seats at the front.

And let’s hope the club have ideas how to fill the seats if we kick off next season with a new manager and the likely drop off.
The atmosphere isn’t shit, it’s been in the top four or five grounds in the country since Covid (there are shit games, of course). In 2022-23 we had the best atmosphere around.

It’s that we want to have an even better atmosphere and be consistently good.

NSL2 is designed as an atmosphere stand. In every other stadium in Europe it would be a dedicated atmosphere stand. The whole of the rest of the ground has small tiers and everyone separated into small chunks - ideal for tourists, quiet fans, hospitality and corporate… there’s one tier that could be something really special and iconic, something that’s substantial enough to want to be part of and be proud to be part of, and having a mish-mash of everything meaning it’s all a bit of nothing in particular isn’t what this tier needs.

You have to remember, you are replying to the ‘Prophet of Doom’. The clue is in his username.

As you rightly point out, every PL ground has a shit atmosphere throughout the season, not just City, dependent on the match, the opponents, the score line, etc.

One thing that is constant most of the time is the support from away fans. City’s away support is up there with the best away supports.

Newcastle fans were quiet until Newcastle scored. Villa fans were quiet last night until Villa scored. Old Trafford was a morgue against Spurs. Etc.

The key to the success of this is offering big incentives for people to relocate from the existing signing areas. Half price for the first season and that does the job.
