Not from Manchester, Not from the Uk, and I am a City Fan

Now now, we have to learn to share. Now with FFP we need new fans more than ever, as long as they love the club and take the good with the bad and arent just in it for the glory then i for one will welcome them

So you think the new 'fans' won't just fuck off if we ever do hit some bad times again? They want to attach themselves to a winning club so they can celebrate in the glory likes it's their own. They have some sort of unfulfilled success in their life and they think by attaching themselves to a club they will finally get the success they so desperately crave but are too stupid to achieve by themselves.

Personally I hate every single one of these new fans. I've berated rags all over the country (and even some in other countries where I was on holiday) for their reasons for supporting them. They have no right to celebrate what has been achieved this season. I couldn't just decide to support a club. Every victory would feel hollow as I know I'm trying to make up for my own inadequacies by pretending I'm a part of Manchester city.

They are not proper blues and never will be and it's disgusting that people are so accepting of them.

I like this alot! We never supported city for trophies but for some reason some people crave success and will jump on any old bandwagon to be apart of it.

-- Sat May 12, 2012 12:34 am --

I agree buddy. All new fans are welcome and City supporters should welcome them.

Hold on a minute...

Haven't we been slagging the rags off for the past 20 years for having fans like this? To suddenly accept this is a bit fucking hypocritical if you ask me. I know glory hunters are a product of success but I'm uneasy with it.

Hmmmm
I have been giving this a lot of thought for some time, our old fan base was up untill recently mainly Manchester working class.
We had the same sense of humour and outlook, it was tribal and carried us through dark and wretched times when the only thing holding the football club together were the fans.
We are now owned by someone who was not born in Manchester or indeed the UK but the Middle East.
Some one who knew nothing or cared even less about us untill Thaskin passed the baton on to a stranger who he trusted to nurture and develop a project he ran out of time and money to do.
The owners are Glory Hunters, thats a major factor in thier investment in the club.....Glory and now brand promotion and all that it will reflect for them.
So
Lets be a little more circumspect in our critism of new fans, attracted to a club we all love for what ever reason.
Personally I always dreamed we would be one of the biggest clubs in the world and that dream now might just come true.
New fans are attracted for whatever reason and I welcome them all, our old world is changing beyond belief and our old attitudes have to adopt to accept the International profile and interest being generated and all that it brings.
Or in the case of a lot of older Blues maybe not but it will not stop the change, it is inevitable.

People taking an interest in us is brilliant. People announcing they are fans of us and taking our success as their own is not acceptable. I'm not against people taking an active interest in us, but if one of those people comes up to me and tries to liken myself to him he'll be getting an earful off me along the lines of that couldn't be further from the truth. I know several lower league fans that have recently took an interest in us. That's brilliant. They are under no illusions that they are not fans in the sense that I am and they'll never proclaim to be. They've come to a few games with me to watch some of the best players in the world in the same sense that I always watch Usain Bolt race because he is an exceptional sportsman, despite me having no allegiances to Jamaica. I also like to watch Madrid for the reason that my mates watch us.

-- Sat May 12, 2012 1:08 am --

I don't know what circles you move in but the general consensus amongst blues that I know is that they're not welcome at all.

This thinking is completely unfair. I for one have supported the squad going on four years. I am from Pennsylvania in the US(Im only 20). I picked City because Claudio Reyna was my favorite player for the U.S National team. I knew nothing about the Abu Dahbi takeover until I began to research our club further. New(ish) fans choose to follow the club for all types of reasons. I choose City because of the claudio reyna factor, and the Manchester United hatred factor because they reminded me of the New York Yankess who I despise as well. Not all new fans our glory hunters, now yes if by some miracle City were to get relegated next year would it make it diffcult to continue to follow obvioisly yes. But that is not because I would say oh fu&k. It would be because it would be nearly impossible to follow a championship season over here in the states.(No streams)

I absolutely love this club, and I have shown that by driving over 4 hours to watch them play an exibihition game in Baltimore two summers ago. Spending 160$ on tickets for a meaningless game just so I could say I saw "God's own club" in person. NOT every new supporter is a glory hunter, a lot our but please dont just group me in with the lot. Thank you God Bless, and lets win the PL on Sunday! CTID

So you actually sit around with other blues and talk about new fans and how they are'nt welcome?

As a non manc and non uk i felt a lot better following city when we're shit. These days its hard to escape that glory hunting feeling if i wear a city shirt. Been following city on tv since morning glory my first memories were georgi v saints and 1-2 v utd in fa cup. It was the gallagher brothers that make me support city. 1995 was the year we started to have large coverage of foreign football with satelite tv made its debut in kuala lumpur. I can tell you it will take us like 20 years to have good following here with pool fans are the best of all.

So fucking what? How does that detract from how much you care about the club? I reckon you're one of the people who hates the ones who leave early too.
