We need new blood. Unfortunately we have so many positions. I'd say goal scorer but we've got one on the bench that Pellegrini won't play. We need a defensive midfielder desperately. And probably a left back at some point.
A DM this window would really help us. Our midfield is slow as molasses.

Given that Kompany appears to be out for a good while yet, a new central defender might be a good idea, even if just a stop gap

I can't see any reason to get a CB and not bring back Denayer. Even if we have to pay Galatasaray a few million to break the loan, it'd be cheaper than any new player.

Agree but we're seemingly in for Weigl and won't have a foreign spot for Denayer.

Good job Denayer is u21 then isn't it?
And even if he was over 21, he's a club trained HG player, so we have loads of space for him.
Denayer will never take up a foreign spot with us under the current rules.

We already have Fernandinho, Fernando & Fabian Delph.

They're all the wrong type of defensive midfielder though.
Fernandinho and Delph are box to box midfielders, Fernando is a destroyer type - he's only ever going to break up play and recycle the ball.
What we need is someone capable of replacing Yaya's control on the game, while being defensively solid. Someone who can play a killer pass, link attack and defence, make us transition quickly by getting the ball off someone like Fernando/Fernandinho/Delph and then releasing the front 4 immediately so our forwards are playing with space to run into and fewer defenders back.
Which is obviously why we're linked with Weigl, who is exactly this player.
