Good choice, I'd be ecstatic at the appointment of Mourinho. As you say we won't get him until they're out of the Champions League, which is Feb at the very earliest (although realsitically he's not going to leave before they win Serie A, which will probably be summer). In that case do you want us to appoint a new manager for six months, or stand by our existing manager until then?

But to be honest, although i think we should give Hughes at least till next season, i wouldn't be to upset if i woke up tomorrow and he had been sacked.
However I like Hughes as a manager, and although many on here don't, i like his man management style. I cant be arsed with pre-madonna footballers who want to take the piss and if anyone can change that mentality then its Hughes. The trouble is, doing it this way means its going to get worse before it gets better (which is evident of our current displays) but given time and a few new faces brought in by Hughes then this type of man management could turn our club into a real force, like that tosser did at the swamp.
The trouble is most City fans want instant success, and with Hughes that isn't going to happen.

my opinion on hughes is that he is a great manager when required to get the best out of meagre resources eg wales with shite players, blackburn with no spending potential.. however, given the current circumstances at city whereby we are led to believe he has a blank cheque book to fill then give me Sven any day..
simply speaking, we have gone backwards under hughes - last season was phenomenal - six points v rags, top four by xmas, ten home games (or was it 9) unbeaten to start.. there can be no argument as to who should be the manager... just like swp.. bring back sven asap!!!

There are some excellent posts on this thread. My view is that we need someone who plays attacking football (unlike Mourinho), who can handle the stars in our team and who has had recent experience of coaching a top European side. Frank Riykeard would be my choice...if only I could spell his name correctly.

I'm in the undecided camp aswell but to his credit he's made some useful signings since he's been here namely; Zab, SWP,Kompany and talked Hart into signing long term. Also, Ireland has been a revelation under Hughes. These players have been some of our most consistent performers. Its not all his fault that some players are performing crap lately .These prima donnas have to take some of the blame. We all slagged (me included) Hughes for not playing Elano and Jo but when they get their chance they blow it. Even Rob's form has been poor. How can you blame Hughes for that ?
I'm not sure whether this is true but I get the feeling that Hughes has coached the flair out of the side. At the start of the season we were turning teams over 3-0 & 6-0, now we're lucky to get at least nil ourselves. Is this because at the start of the season the players weren't fully aware of Hughes' plan & therefore just went out & played? Now they are being stifled & are scared to express themselves in fear of rebuke from the mafia?
As they become more in tune with the Hughes plan they are becoming poorer players for it.

In fact, I think that they would possibly show an immediate improvement as I honestly believe that Hughes has mismanaged the squad to the point where his relationship with some of them is quite obviously affecting the spirit and resolve within the camp and therefore performances and fight on the pitch.
In my eyes, getting rid now would remove that huge negative (low moral) that seems to run through every performance at the moment. When a manager is the cause of such feeling it almost never gets turned around. It almost always irretrievable.
As for spending the money. I don't really care if he is sacked and 'the club' has to make some big signings rather than Hughes. It could be argued that they might anyway (who is targeting Kaka, Villa, etc - Hughes or 'the club'). They certainly did that with Robinho and is anyone complaining. Anyway, it would only be until the end of the season or until a manager we really want comes in later in the season.
At present I honestly believe that Hughes presence is contributing massively to the underperformance on the pitch. Both his tactical decisions and his relationship with the team. I don't think that he has some particularly huge ability in the transfer market that will allow him to get more out of the billions in January than anyone with a modicum of knowledge could anyway.
Therefore, that would be my reasons for getting rid tomorrow.
Do I think it'll happen? Not at all. I think it will take a lot more than the current dross to make the Arabs go back on their word. Which, in my view, is a shame in this case.

As Spurs and Harry Redknapp have proved,the top players dont need to be told how to play football,they need an arm aound their shoulder and told how good they are.
I see Hughes and Bowen as 'old school'.By that I mean they rant and shout at the players and have turned training into a boot camp.
I see Mourinho as the perfect manager to take us forward,yet I admit that he wouldnt join until the summer,allthough its surely worth 'enquiring' behind the scenes??
£10m pa for Jose and a £300m transfer kitty would surely turn his head.
I know Hughes has so far had a decent track record in the transfer market but I do worry that the worlds top players would rather be coached by a top manager.
If thats the case CBLUE Hughes team talks don't need any more than a go out and express yourselves , there is no team plan , no tactics , just go out and outscore the opposition.
Rather than formations and plans and tactics we have lost confidence in our own ability to take on the other side and use our quality / possession game whatever you want to call it and outplay the opposition.
Also sides with a physical presence and sides that give you little space on the ball know that we are vunerable in those departments.
We push too many forward and leave to many holes for the opposiiton to find out that our back four are not super quick at tracking back and filling up the holes in last third of the pitch.
We then resign ourselves to play the ball forward with height and length and it is easy pickings for the opposition to read us and gain possession.
The majority of premiership sides have a strong physical set up all over the pitch , some of them have players of lesser quality and skill but they are at you all the time , we have to learn how to better cope with these sides.
On top of that our mindset and mental toughness is way off beam at present ie we are being both out thought and out muscled and it doesn't matter how good your player is skill wise and speed wise if you don't have the right mental approach to matchday very rarely will your side come home with any points.
