Official Aston Villa v City Match Thread

I don't know if I would say we set out for a draw. I agree that we gave the ball away too cheaply at times and it put us on the back foot. That dictated the game in stretches and we were playing from behind for a large portion. Fighting back for a point was good to see. I think 3 points was possible from this fixture (as were 0) but a point away to Villa is not a bad result at all.

I do take alot of positives from tonight which are:

1. Lescott is getting alot better and settling down.
2. Bridge is starting to become the player we know he can be.
3. Roque is getting game time which will speed up his recovery to first team football.
4. The team is developing a habit of becoming hard to beat and grinding out results.
5. De Jong is turning out to be a gem.
6. Ireland looks like he is back. (Personally, i think he is one of the most important players in our team)

and... 4th in the table with a game in hand. Clearly not good enough for some.

On reflection i think we were lucky to come away with a draw.

Villa were much better on the ball and didnt lose possession as cheaply as we did, i think this could be because Barry didnt look comfortable tonight and SWP had a terrible game.

I think if we had put Ireland in from the start and played Johnson later on we would have been far more creative and caused them more problems and probably scored more.

IMO, we set out for a draw tonight, the pace of the game was slow compared to our last performances and i think we were quite lucky.

Credit to MON for the fantastic job he and his staff are doing at Villa Park. I dont think their squad has as much strength in depth as ours though and we will be on top come the end of the season.

You really believe that?

Yes i do, otherwise i wouldnt of said it, we were set up from the start with a defensive mindset with our midfielders deeper than usual. Plus we started without a creative midfielder.

we are 4th , game in hand, could go 2nd, and our team is still gelling, good away point tonight, onto Wigan.

you're giving us US fans a bad name with posts like this.

ROFL!! Being happy about a tie is what mid table team fans do.

Are you 12 or just don´t know all that much about football? So you don´t think that top 4 sides would be content with a point from Villa Park? Yes at home id be expecting a victory with the team we have but come on... Just out of curiosity how long have you been supporting City?

I can't believe some of the negative comments on here tonight. To echo some of my fellow Blues. P7 - W5 - L1 - D1, 4th in the League with a game in hand, what exactly is the problem???

Go on that site and see how happy fans are after a draw with non title contender.

Since Reyna days. And no most fans of top four teams won't be happy with a draw. Only small teams think in terms of home and away. Big teams want to win every game.

We're certainly not perfect...and that is my biggest issue with is right now as well. Our set PIECE defense needs improvement...that said, I'm not ready to jump off a bridge like you, lol.
