i think they might sign sam, there targets are drying up, benzema and ribery both want to play in spain and villa wants to stay in spain, they might go for aguero at athletico

Aguero too expensive for them, they don't think he's worth £100k a week (apparantly!)

I think the problem is that top players now see spain as the pinnacle for a few reasons.

A team from spain are the current european champions, the tax situation is alot better over there, the climate is alot better over there, and they have clubs with just as much history and tradition as clubs in england.

Therefore to tempt the top players over you have to be able to offer players something that they cant. For united it used to be the name they could offer, RM and Barca can now offer the name and match the money. chelsea can offer the money and the same chance at winning trophies, benitez and wenger have alot more pull on an international level than baconface. I know the english press ram it down our throats that he is the greatest manager of all time and his achievements cant be ignored but his pull and clout still only remains over here, ancelotti, bentiez and wenger i think are much more respected throughout europe than he is and therefore can offer what he can for players coming to the english league.
Its funny how the powers that be at uefa don;t include the diff in tax between the countries when measuring unfairness in clubs finance.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

If the Rags go for Eto'o it's a knee jerk reaction to failure to sign their main targets. They are seriously hurting because on top of this they have lost Tevez & Ronaldo and City are hogging the headlines. They will appeal to Eto's vanity! However Eto'o should realise that he is only Rags 3rd choice.

Samuel should listen to Tevez...."President of England" plus Eto'o? Hmmmm.

I think any player going to the rags need to realise that they are a bubble thats been getting bigger every year.

The rags may sign him but i cant see it. Firstly theyd lose him for a month in january and they arent exactly rich on striking options as it is. Secondly his cost and age would be prohibitive to them and thirdly even if they did like they did with berbaflop all it does is eat into their budget for other areas of the team which need strengthening.

I personally think this is a rag journo trying to boost the fans morale after they lost their best player and top target to the same team in a short space of time. He would recieve no more money at the rags than he would at barca by staying there an extra 2 years or year and lets be honest who would you rather play with. xavi, iniesta, messi, henry or anderson, carrick, fletcher, giggs and rooney

As happy as I was at seeing them miss out on Benzema, I must admit I've got this niggling worry that they might go for Eto'o. Their targets are diminishing and as a result they might be tempted to sidetrack this supposed policy of theirs about not signing players over 26. They won't be able to offer the kind of money that we can stump up but they can offer Champions League football and Eto'o coming to City means he has to forego CL football for 1 season at the very least, but more likely it could be 2 or 3 and by then he'll be in his early thirties.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

im sure i read somewhere that they were lining up another french striker just incase they didn't get benzema

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

I have said it once and i will say this again.

I don't understand why people are worried about the Rags signing Eto'o.

If he wasall about success and winning trophy's then he would sign an extension ar Barca.

But he isn't he is a money man, something we have the most of.

Infact, if they went in for him, it could suit us more if he still chose us, it would hurt them even more.

Interesting theory!

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Once again the spectre of CL football rears its head, let me put this to people, the man in question has won the competition twice and has scored goals in 2 finals. If the most significant thing for him was to win this competition he would stay with the CURRENT european champions as they and RM are best setup to win the competition again.

I honestly dont think that 2 the player in question the CL is such a big deal, 2 most top top players this year is all about the world cup and playing to get there, on top of that its about the ACN for eto'o as well. The CL is just banged on about because its Fifas flagship but this year its all about the world cup.
