My brother-in-law works at City and he has just told me Eto'o signed for us last Friday. Laporta revealing we have made a bid yesterday, and the subsequent comments of his agent is an agreed PR stunt to show that Barca didn't want him to leave and they did try to keep him.

I am not one to post speculation normally, just passing on what I have been told. He has not told me crap before and is not normally wrong.

Sounds a little far fetched but I hope he is right!

Sounds like a copy and paste from January but with Eto'o replacing Kaka. Notice how this doesn't happen when other clubs sign big players? It's just City fans telling themselves such so that they don't feel gutted about a player probably not coming.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

I got shot down for because i said it won't happen. I was just about to make a topic saying, SpursMad is a decent enough guy but he will lose his 100% record with the Eto'o deal.

Why would Eto'o with everything at Barca come to us. In a few years when we achieve something yes, but not at the moment, we are a small club compared to what Eto'o wants to play at.

I don't think we need to pay silly money for Eto'o and that is probably why he doesn't want to come, because we do not want to pay the wages and i'm with the City board on this. Why pay any player astronimical wages, it's ridiculous. Eto'o is a greedy bastard. I think this is a blessing in disguise. If we get Eto'o aswell as RSC and Tevez it will cause unrest with the team and Eto'o isn't somebody who loses alot, so if we start losing a few like we did last season, Eto'o isn't the sort of player you need to get you out of the scruffy situations. Tevez is.

I hope your right too mate :)
When someone with a good post count makes comments like this I feel inclined to believe them so fingers crossed.

I hope you are right about him being right.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Could this all be as thaksin has posted , part of a carefully choreographed move to ensure he gets his loyalty bonus from barca. We then look amazing for pulling off this amazing coup. Barca look like they tried to keep him for their fans and everyones a winner baby thats no lie???

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Probably along the lines of I've enjoyed being at Barca but the fuckers wouldnt give me a pay rise.

some bloke from Abu Dhabi offered me a fortune so I've decided to leave...

<hopefully>

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

for what its worth i think eto'o will be playing for us next year.
this i belive is a pr stunt, him and his agent have to say they want to stay otherwise they wont get the £10m loyalty payment
if he or his agent came out and said he was leaving they would lose this money so they have to make it look like they are being forced out
dont forget that eto'o as good a pleyer as he is , is a greedy little shit and compete mercenary.
he wants as much as possible out of his next deal as its due to be his last one.
take last summer for example he was close to signing for some middle east villagers ffs.
we need to stay calm, and wait for an official statement.
we will know more tomorrow

and by the way if he decides were not for him and we miss out, im sure hughes will have other targets, so it isnt the end of the world

bit of perspective required as robinho tevez and santa will be a very good strike force anyway

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

see i dont know what to believe anymore, yes it would be great to have a world class player like Sammie Eto'o playing for us, but if the reports we're hearing are true and its more Barca pushing him here rather than him wanting to come, then i think it could be a bad move. I suppose this press conference that SSN is talking about should clear it all up (hopefully)

This doesn't sound kosher but it is strange that there should be a press conference tomorrow and it's clear that . I don't believe Eto's representatives will be announcing a non move without City making some sort of a formal announcement first.

Why the hell would his agent call a press conference in front of all the worlds press tomorrow, to say the same thing that has supposedly been said today!?

PR shenanigans.

Which one is the shenanigan though? The quote today or the conference tomorrow?

Perhaps both.

Basically the way I see it there are two possibilities here

1) the deal has been done. this is all just a smokescreen/saving face etc etc

2) the deal has been done in principal, with the loyalty bonus the only sticking point. that would explain both Laporta's comments "he has received a huge offer..." and the agent going around saying he is seeing out his contract. If 2) is correct, then what we are seeing here is a game of brinksmanship. If the agent really meant what he was saying then he wouldn't need to call the press conference in addition to todays comments.

Technically, there is a third possibility - that he really has no intention of coming - but I don't buy that. It wouldn't make sense with the comments being put out there by both his agent and Laporta... and more tellingly, the complete silence on our end (we have been very quick to shoot down deals in the past few months)

Of course this is all total speculation on my part - but it looks pretty clear to me reading between the lines what is going on.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

It might be a ploy by city everyone's talking about eto'o while we sign other players under the
rader

I agree. That is all.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Tell you what I think is a bit odd. Not a single comment from Eto'o. Not even a "I will decide my future in my own time" etc.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Had a quick look at work at bluemoon, and gathered it wasn't lloking too good. Predictably a few blues were very disappointed, but how can you seriously Expect Eto'o to sign for City. It's fantastic that we're in there bidding for such players. Perhaps a few people are guilty of buying totally into well intentioned Internet Rumour.

We've already bought Barry, and Santa Cruz. Tevez could follow shortly so anyone who starts spitting their dummy out has lost a bit of perspective.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

The 180 comment is IMO to do with Barcelona and not us. They need to sort this loyalty payment out or he is staying, simple. I imagine we will be involved here and may even add a whack onto the transfer fee if the deal is still do able.

Nahh, i was thinking it's more to do with money. I think Eto'o wants alot more money than we are prepared to pay.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Chelsea got rejected by Pato last week after they made a mega offer to Milan and Ribery didn't even allow the rags to the negotiating table saying he didn't want to join them down to the 'British climate'. Rejections happen to everyone, its not that big a deal.

On the deal itself - It is NOT dead, if it was dead Cook would have come out by now and said something, probably distancing us from the whole affair. If it was me, I would just make up outragous lies and say we never even looked at Eto'o and I don't know what these crazy Spanish fucks are talking about. As my father always taught me, the BBB technique is a surefire winner in all situations - Bullshit Baffles Brains.

No. Some places have said he is happy with the package offered by City. It's the loyalty payment - which is a lot of money about £10m.
