If Laporta wants to mess about then we could do the same. Pay him his loyalty fee or we will increase Villas price by putting in a huge bid. Or at least let the press speculate on it. 'City forced to consider Villa alternative as Eto'o deal stalls' type thing. Puts us back in the driving seat. Makes Laporta aware that he can't get Villa at a decent price AND hold Eto'o (and indirectly City) to ransom over the loyalty payment because we could inflate the Barca price for Villa.

I know we can't get Villa but we can make Barcelona sweat over the size of their deal. It's in their interests to let Sammy go so we don't interfere and we can do what Laporta is doing to give him a kick up his backside.

It's all just a game!

For those that care about him signing and not about making this thread as long as the tevez one, the latest from Barcelona seems to be that they have agreed terms with Villa, Villa really wants to go, they just have to agree a fee with Valencia.

They are also reportedly going to table an offer for Mascherano

Laporta has also stated he wants to find the best solution for Barca and Eto'o.

All the above is on the Sport.es site and El Mundo Deportivo.
