[OFFICIAL] - Fernando has signed

Won it and kept it. Very good movement so that he was always available as an option for the player in possession.
He looked very good but far too early to judge of course.

I've seen enough in pre-season to state we have a cracker,he probably just needs to adjust to the speed of the Prem and he'll be dynamite imo,I cant wait to see the partnership with Dinho,i reckon they'll be awesome.

Like a taller de Jong with more meat.

And greater athleticism..

He has definitely improved over the the preseason so far. Still early days but it looks like he is settling in nicely. I never thought he would be Fernandinho MK II as other posters where stating prior to his signing (after having watched him with Porto I never understood where those assessments were coming from as his passing range and skills on the ball are not comparable) but I do think he'll be the midfield laundry man we need.

Very impressed with the recovery speed he has.

A couple of times he lost the ball when venturing upfield but he chased down the opponent and won the ball back.

Teams will be hard pushed to score against us next season when we have a strong team out.

He's closer to a Fernadinho than he is a Garcia though. While the attacking instincts might not come as natural as his defensive duties,he is more than capable of going forward with purpose should we require it.Like his compatriot last season,i think Fernando he may well prove our most important signing this one.

I actually think he is closer to Garcia than Fernandinho, actually. That is, he is a pure defensive midfielder—I would never have him regularly going forward as passing and vision are not among his strengths. But he is endowed with much more pace and agility which allows him to do things Garcia can't, like lose the ball in midfield but successfully gain back possession by tracking back and tackling it off a player (instead of being forced to pull down the runner from behind). He also is able to cover more ground, which helps with his positioning (which also seems to have been improving as the preseason has gone on).

I've not been quite as impressed as you, as we have discussed, but he has played well the last few matches, and I think he'll continue to settle in and be an important part of hopefully another title-winning season.

This is in no way a criticism of Fernando but I think he has quite a lot of work to do in order to convince me he is a similar player to Fernandinho, who has been a revelation for us and in my mind is one of the best CMs in the Premier League (and perhaps the world—his appearances in the a World Cup where tainted by Scolari's idiotic tactics and general decision-making, in my opinion).
