Oil money and Arab money city

It is said that America will be self sufficient in gas AND oil in 10 years time and won't have to rely on middle east oil. If this is so, then it's not inconceivable that the US will not feel the need to patrol the waters of the persian gulf, and withdraw it's 5th fleet. This in turn may de-stabilise the region with the likes of China, or even India, wanting more influence and may impact on the fortunes of local rulers, such as our beloved Sheikh and his family.

This is the exact reason that the US will not pull its fleet out. It doesn't want China encroaching on the Middle East, regardless of self-sufficiency.
If China weighs in, in the Middle East it could quite conceivably increase, not decrease the level of stability in the region, certainly if history is anything to go by.

As to the OP, I never hear united's owners being referred to as "Jewish/The Jews/The Jewish owners", which says a great deal.

entirely my sentiments mate. Said since we were first took over by 'The Arabs' this was the case. During the stoke game we were actually called terrorists by sections of their fans, couldn't believe it! But just goes to show how the media influence joe public. The mere fact that they ARE arabs and muslims frightens a lot of people and probably undestandably so. (i had a few pints tonight with a Salford Reds fan and apparantley they are being took over by 'Arabs'. Even though a life long fan he has sworn that he will never go again.) Me saying that it is the way of the world and that it works for us didn't help (he is a Manyoo fan of long standing).
Just goes to show folks...................!!!

Why should anybody be frightened by a Muslim/Arab ? Could you please explain that theory ?

Indeed, now it could be said I am not the biggest fan of religious faith and all it encompasses but that's pushing it.
That would be some dodgy logic to think of secular businessmen being something to fear besides asset stripping you.

Fair point. The term Jewish is both a religious and racial term, whereas Arab is distinctive from Muslim - one being racial the other religious.

My point is that the Glazers are referred to as American - and almost never Jewish - whereas our owners are usually referred to by their racial, rather than national tag. It is a relatively minor point and one that is, I imagine, mainly not rooted in racial prejudice, but there are negative connotations that to some readers go with that word that many journalists will be all too aware of, but they carry in in spite of, or in some instances perhaps because of that fact.

True, you won't ever read about the rags trying to buy the league with 'Jew money'.

Or Chelsea winning things because Ambramovich exploited disabled workers.

nearly every column inch describes City in such a way.

Arab money, Oil dollars, megabucks...etc

if our owners had white skins and weren't Muslims i don't think we'd be referred to as this all the time.

you never here the source of other clubs "sugar daddies"

billionaires own a large percentage of Premier clubs, why don't we here their industry prefixing any description about their club ?

Abramovitch and CFC have come in for a substantial amount of criticism but they seem to have weathered that particular storm, but I think it is the above combination that generates most of the criticism. Were the Good Sheik a WASP with respected offices on Wall Street the money, and consequently the success, might produce a different reaction. We never hear of MANUre having Jewish owners, or funded with dubious dollars. Oil is something that provokes a mighty reaction in a lot of people who fill up at the pumps, and chuck in Muslim as well, and yer have a pretty pickle!

Whilst I agree that after 4 years telling everyone they are Arab still seems a bit strange. As little islanders though we have a thing about tagging people from other nations just so we know, it reassures the public. It will always be "Roman Abramovich Chelsea's Russian owner" and "Randy Lerner Aston Villa's American owner" rather than just owner. I believe the Arab tag is not a racial term as such and is more likely to do with people not even knowing Abu Dhabi existed until 4 years ago over here
