Watched most of Italy/Ukraine to eye our boy OK. He started on the right side and didn't see the ball much unless it pin-balled to him somehow.
At about the 20 min mark he was shifted to the middle in front of the defenders and nicely QB'd UKR until half-time.
In the 2nd half he was shifted back to the right and spent most of the half helping the RB at the corner of the box defend waves of Italians.
Here is a tweet with some iso cam of his performance. It edits out his fumbles,
but it also doesn't include a back-heel clearance on a CK and one of his handful of clever dummies.

wow playing DM role?
 
The media are talking up a January move to Napoli. I wouldn't blame the lad if the deal is right but can we afford to lose possible DM cover for Fernandhino?
 
Saw a bit of the Italy v. Ukraine friendly and thought Zinky might be ok as a DM for us....thought he looked bigger physically playing for them too !!!
 
I really hope Pep gives him a chance filling in for Fern. As for a January move, let’s hope it’s just speculation. He’s a player of great promise.

He's never played Defensive midfielder for us I should think realistically Gundogan, Delph, Stones and possibly KdB are ahead of him as cover.
We might not have great cover for Fern but I don't think Oleks leaving changes that very much.
 
He looks like he’s grown taller a bit.

If only he was a tad quicker he’d be perfect imo.
 
We'll soon be playing games every 3-4 days, so hopefully Pep tries out Zinchenko as a DM. Fernandinho can't play every single game this season

As we saw in the cup game, Pep would rather play Stones in the DM position ahead of Zinchenko.

I think Zinchenko should play DM as well, he is very similar to Jorginho, who we also wanted and is also not great defensively either, but really intelligent with their passing and off the ball movement.

Pretty sure that Pep mentioned Zinchenko as one of the potential DMs in the summer. I think Stones was preferred ahead of Zinchenko in the DM position in the cup game, because Zinch had to play LB since Mendy and Delph was out, and Stones also is more experienced. Stones didn`t look too comfortable there IMO, so if Mendy or Delph is fit to play against Fulham in the Carabao cup, I wouldn`t be surprised to see Zinch play Dm

Would be nice to see, but as you say it would require Delph to be fit enough to play, and at left-back rather than midfield; Fulham is the only coming fixture in which I can see Mendy being rested, hence the Delph requirement.

Is it possible to trick Napoli and give them Mangala instead of Zinchenko?

Is this a joke comment? DM is like the only position (other than GK) that doesn't require pace to be played at an elite level.
