Oleks Zinchenko - 2018/19 Performances

I reckon if he's here long enough he'll eventually start being used in other positions.
In fact I like to tell myself it's best for his long term development for a midfield role if he continues to play in the LB role.
I think that Zinchenko's best position is in midfield. And if he accepts that he's not a preferred starter at any position - I hope he stay in our side - the guy has loads of talent.

My expectation though is that Zinchenko transfers in the summer window.

Contract til 2020.

It seems Pep was happy to let him go last summer but Zin insisted to stay and fight for his position,
after having contact to Napoli.

IMO Pep likes his talent but not his workrate.
Maybe the lad is just a bit too nice.

Back then Pep praised Zin going straight on the training ground after returning from an away game where he was benched.
But I also think Pep was exactly asking for added passion.

Btw, late vs Chelsea when Zin had a cramp Pep didn't look amused at all nor pitiful,
I think for Pep it was a sign of lazy training performance if his players have cramp.

Never heard of contract extension talks for him...
I suspect he didn't much care by that point given they were 6:0 up..

Give him a break. Not played much football and ran his balls off. Pep would be pleased with the shift he put in. Not easy to nail down a place in our team regardless of who you are.

I don’t blame the lad for turning down moves last summer, he’s hardly touching the end of his career and why not be apart of potentially something special whilst under Pep. He isn’t going to leave City and go over to Madrid or Barca, he’s having the best time of his career whilst seemingly having the perfect life with loads of his (teammates) mates in Manchester.

If Pep didn’t trust him he would have played Danilo yesterday.

I believe that we have won every league game that Zinchenko has started so Pep clearly knows when to trust him ;-)

Oh don't get me wrong, I like that lad
and he was superb vs Chelsea.

Anyway, Pep seems not fully convinced
but he's a skilled player and a good character, both is key for Pep.
Next window will decide about his further development.

How is Pep not fully convinced? I bet all of us here would love Foden to have had as many minutes as Zinchenko.

Was Zin the only available left back for the Chelsea match? If the answer was, no we could have played Danilo,Delph or Laporte instead then that clearly makes Pep convinced enough.

He was different in that game compared to almost any of his previous performances, one being agression & two being a constant desire to create when on the ball rather than just move the ball around.

He was not really involved as an actual fullback, & can't really defend in that position, but in the midfield areas he was actually pretty tough, as well as an attacking threat.

Imo he showed the potential he could have as a midfielder, IF he was ever to be coached as one.
