I agree, technically very sound, passing excellent - he slotted in very well last season and will develop into a very good central midfielder. His only real weakness is a lack of pace. If we don't sign a DM I'd prefer it if we kept hold of him.

Just said on another thread that I wonder if he could convert successfully to a deeper midfield role. Doubt he has any less pace than Jorginho and he does make tackles.

For me Delph is best suited to the role, he rarely loses possession, decent passer and good tackler when required. The added advantage is that he has already adapted excellently to a more varied role to his natural one

I'm sure Delph could contribute in that position but does he has the long game that we are, apparently, looking for? Moreover though, Delph's place in the squad seems to be first and foremost as one of our two principal left backs.

We should have found out last season.

Imo Pep was wrong in never giving him a chance in any of his actual positions.

Not convinced that we should have found out last season but trying him there in this preseason might be a good idea. Pep though sees him in training all the time so he will know whether he thinks it is a viable option.

Last season they worked with him on adapting to LB, which may have been enough to cope with. Now may be the time to move on to DM.

He'll miss most of the pre season having only just left the world cup. Might make the last game.

He’ll pay us in Lonsdale polo shirts and boxer shorts
Was in one of his shops last week to get runners, he had a lot of 7 month out of date Charlton Athletic and Fulham calendars as well, might get a good deal on them.

Bloody hell, last I checked Ukraine didn't qualify and now you're telling me they made the knockouts?

I thought you were talking about delph as defensive midfield was mentioned as one of his natural positions. Were you seriously talking about Zinch?

Well, it's the Zinchenko thread and Delph did get gametime in midfield under Guardiola so...

Not last season he didn't and there were numerous comments about Delph on that page and the ones before it so forgive me for getting my wires crossed.

Imo, after being asked to rescue the situation to allow our left backs to rest and recover, he should have been rewarded with opportunities to at least have a g

He certainly started one match last season in central midfield but I think he was either replaced or moved back to LB in the 2nd half.

I think Zinchenko could fill in for dinho. He’s proven he can defend and his range and weight of pass is excellent.

Agree completely with the second point about his passing, but he was found out defensively and positionally a number of times last season when he filled in. He was neat and tidy as a stand in left-back and seems willing to learn and improve his game but I wouldn’t trust him filling in for Dinho. By the way, I do like the lad and think he can do a good job for us when called upon but not as a DM, pivot, registra or whatever you want to call the position you’re wanting him to play.

His aerial ability would worry me for sure but as you say he is a useful player and I’d like to keep him if possible and see how he develops. Much better than Garcia for me.
