well done.

I think it should be compulsory unless people carry an 'opt out' card.

Including those that lie in state?

Or should that be "in a state"?
regardless of previous lifestyle every dead body has something that can be used to help someone still alive, or for medical research.

Now i realise some of the religiously deluded would prefer to remain whole for their expected journey to the afterlife, but the reality is that the body will be eaten by worms.

Serious questions now:-

Where do you get a donor card, can you register online? giving blood, does it not make you feel 'woozy'? sure a girl at college many years ago said this and how it gave her a high! Where do you find out where to go etc etc?? I should really know this what with my Dad having cancer last year, but what are platelets ( think they're white blood cells but not sure) and how in Heaven's name does that work, giving them I mean??

Google for the donor registration site. Not sure if you get a card anymore, its on a database so they can check quicker.

No 'high' when you donate blood. You may feel light headed, but as long as you eat before it, drink plenty of water and have your brew after, its fine. Platelet donation is every month, for a few hours. They take your blood out, spin it, seperate the platelets and take them away. Then they put the blood back into you.

Please, anyone reading this, if you can donate blood, please do

Ignorant.

Such a comment is offensive and fucking ignorant. As a parent that watched the life drain from my 7 year old daughter literally in seconds , then watching over her as she fought for her life at Pendlebury the hardest thing I have ever done in my life is for my wife and I to actually discuss the issue of organ donation at her bedside, but looking at the other parents in the High Dependancy Unit praying for hope we knew it would have been the right thing and believe passionately that it is. For us things worked out, others are not so lucky but with the gift of donation then somebodies loved one, somewhere is given life. Maybe that loved one may be one of yours some day. Go away and had a quiet word with yourself mate.

Wow, what an arsehole.

I have one and have had since I was old enough, and as per my earlier thread......

I have recently signed up to Anthony Nolan to help with stem cell/bone marrow donation. My Dad had 2 bone marrow transplants and but for the time and effort of Anthony Nolan and the kindness of 2 complete strangers registering to be donors, he wouldn't be with us today.

A lot of people don't know about Anthony Nolan and what they do, but I feel it is just as important as a Donor Card. If you are ever selected as a match for someone it is more often than not as simple as giving blood and you have the satisfaction of knowing you have helped somebody live whilst you are still alive to enjoy the fact.
