OS: David Platt joins City [Merged]

One of my criticisms of the retention of Hughes as manager was that he didn't have the CV to justify his position.

That's the total sum of my concerns about Platt.

I have no interest in his rag-tendencies or his Skysports outbursts... my only worry is that he has absolutely no track record to justify his position as Mancheser City's first team coach. That's it.

I hope he proves me wrong, but history suggests that it's usually better to appoint the best rather than just someone you know.

It's not like we can't afford it...

Yeah, a guy who has a UEFA Pro A Licence and designed training drills with Van Gaal, who has written advanced (and well received books) on the subject of tactics, runs his own tactical coaching company (which does very well for itself) and helped bring through most of the 'Golden Generation' from U-21 level, is actually a clueless no mark because he said some things Bluemoon posters disagree with
But please tell me what the fuck he has actually achieved as a coach?
What's he won?
What's his managerial trophy haul?
Where's the quotes from players who have benefitted from his input?

Well here's the qoute from a player for you:

" A modern day player wants to learn from his coach. He wants to enjoy training at the same time as learning from the coach he is working under.

In today's game players need to know why they are asked to do certain things on a training pitch and during a game, and so a coach needs to be able to apply the tactics and answer the questions that are posed to him by the players.

Having worked with David Platt at England Under 21 level I can say that his training sessions were enjoyable and the players learned from them as well. The course he has designed will benefit anyone who is looking to improve their knowledge of the game."

Personally, I shall wait and see, I don't care what he's said or done in the past, his appointment will guide our future. People's perception of coaches and players change over time, and here is a prime example:

Roy Hodgson - crap coach, can't motivate players, doesn't understand the Premier League - Blackburn Rovers 1997/1998

Roy Hodgson - great coach, motivates his players above all else, takes a mediocre team to the UEFA Cup Final, just been appointed manager at one of the biggest clubs in Europe

Which one did you think of first - give the bloke a bloody chance will ya!!

Taggert was close to getting sacked, untill mark robins popped up, people in life have to start somewhere, if he's had a few knockbacks fair play to him even more for wanting to prove people wrong.
A complete red herring and yet more deluded bollox. Taggart had won the Scottish league and a European trophy with Aberdeen. Therefore his pure managerial ability was not in question.

When are you going to grasp platt is a coach?

Your still to get back to me about the 5 players that have worked with DP, with 4 of them successful relationships.

You know that he's a coach and not a manager, yeah? What's Faustino's achievements?
The coach who is acknowledged as probably one of the best in the world right now, is Rene Mulensteen over at the rags. What has he achieved?

What's he won?

He's a coach

What's his managerial trophy haul?
He was a manager. He's never even worked as a pure coach under a manager. He has no pedigree at all as a club coach. No one's employed him as a club coach for 9 years. He's won nothing and has seriously pissed off senior players at the one English club he's managed.

You've made your position quite clear that Mancini can do no wrong. That's your right but I think you've only been a fan since he arrived so I'll give you some City history.

We used to have a manager called Alan Ball, who was one of the best players of his era. He won a World Cup medal but was a flop in most of his previous managerial positions.

He got Portsmouth promoted to the old 1st Division (Premiership) but they were relegated the next season and he was eventuall sacked.
His next managerial position was at Stoke, where he spent a lot of money but they were relegated from Div 2 to Div 3 (Championship to League 1).

Next was Exeter (in Div 3) who he took well on the way to relegation to Div 4 (League 2) and was sacked before the end of the season.

At Southampton, he just managed to avioid relegation two season running (mainly thanks to Matt Le Tissier virtually singlehandedly saving them0. Without Le Tiss they'd have certainly gone.

Then he came to us, on the strength of his friendship with Chairman Francis Lee, who'd played alongside him for England. Many fans questioned this at the time but we were told we had a world class manager. He took us down to the Championship and set the scene for the fall to League 1 in 1998.

People say "trust the people with the experience" but we as fans have a lot of experience of watching football and are not easily fooled.

So Platt is our new manager is he?
nobody got fooled by alan balls appointment
