I don't give a fuck why he was loaned out, I'm wondering why we have waited til he's 27 years old & suddenly we have to have him. Why not when he was 25, what was he doing ? why isn't he playing for Chelsea or Utd already, why now all of a sudden ?

Why do we want to spend a fortune on the 27 year old bloke who was dogshit for Argentina v Paraguay, rather than use the 19 year old homegrown player who has just made one of the greatest full debuts ever by a centre back, for Belgium v France ?
This is the mangala benatia debate v2

Don't be stupid, it is two entirely different players who have nothing in common with either.
Did I say they were the same players? I was referring to the previous post saying he'd rather go for the younger player who has impressed on the national level versus the older newer on the scene veteran who has really done well at the club level... If you can't see the similarities I'm not sure you can talk about intelligence.. Yes Denayer has done well at Celtic too but he didn't bring it up.

To be fair, when Otamendi was 25, he had gone unbeaten in the league and win the Europa League with AVB's all conquering Porto side, it's not as if he's come out of nowhere. He's been highly rated and linked with everyone in pretty much ever window for the past 4 or 5 years, I'm not sure why he never got that big money move. One game at international level is really not a great way of judging a player either, given that so many players play completely differently in internationals and he wasn't used to playing with those players. He was the best CB in la liga last year, which means a hell of a lot more than one ropey game for an Argentina side that seems hell bent on making everyone look worse than they actually are.

I can only assume that people just weren't willing to take the gamble on him, possibly because of his height. Valencia took the risk and he showed everyone that he is the real deal, that's why everyone is now interested. He's proven himself and those who had doubts now see him as one the best available CB's in world football, of which there aren't a whole lot of options.

With all that being said, we still don't need him. If we needed an experienced, top quality CB then he would be right at the top of my list, but we don't.

There are no similarities at all, in any way.

Denayer is much younger than Mangala, homegrown & free of charge. smaller, faster, much better footballer, not as good in the air. Mangala cost a fortune & was much more experienced already.

Denayer is like a younger faster potentially infinitely better better version of Benatia or Otamendi if anything, nothing like Mangala at all.

Let me get this straight, would we be getting him on the cheap? Or would we be loosing our £25 million from Negredo and paying say 5/10 million on top of that for him? And if so what would happen regarding us using that money to buy Bony? As that money was meant to go into our books to cover that wasn't it?

Demichelis was rated by some as the best cb in La Liga when we signed him. Several of the others similarly rated, seem to be off everyone's radar now.

Mascherano plays cb in LaLiga. It is not the Premier League.

If Denayer doesn't make it as a cb in the Prem, it will be because of his size. Otemendi is smaller & slower & very expensive.

Otamendi's lack of height is completely negated by his aggression in the air, which is what Denayer will have to develop. He attacks everything and has no problems at all in the air, quite the opposite he's a real threat from corners. How good you are in the air is not all about your height. I'd back Micah to win a header over Nastasic every single time, despite giving up 3 inches or so, just because one is willing to attack the ball and the other hides like a fanny.

Micah can jump 2 ft higher than Nastasic as well.

Evra is great at scoring corners, but he isn't stopping Vincent Kompany or Lescott scoring at the other end. Neither is Otemendi. Nor could he get near Rocky last week even on the ground.

If you are going to have a shortarse cb in the Premier League, you want one with pace.

Is your only point of reference the game against Paraguay?
