Otamendi

Won the most headers from a defender in la liga 115, Godin(6ft1) 2nd, Inigo Martinez(5'11) 3rd.

Most headers won out our boys was Demichelis(6ft) with 82

And he made double the amount of tackles our top centre back with 72-36(md)

He committed the same amount of fouls as Kompany but after playing 10 more games.

And he scored 6 goals, that's more than our entire defense managed last season. 5 by way of his head(joint 4th most across Europe's top 5 leagues, of all players) which is the same amount our entire squad managed with theirs.

But you know, he's only 6ft so he's shit

Despite looking completely unalike, I always confuse him with his compatriot, Ezequiel Garay.

Another GREAT defender, and IMO, even better tha Otamendi. Was sold for 15m Euros to the russians (a joke of a price!). I would so gladly have him in a City shirt... :-)

He´s indeed the first CB in the argentinian national squad. Ota is only a sub.

If we buy any centre half, it should only be when Demichelis goes imo, or if we find Denayer is struggling badly & we have no option.

If Demichelis was to be replaced now, knowing Kompany's injury record, we could find ourselves having to play a rookie, untried cb plus Mangala, through key parts of the season.

We potentially have a nice blend of experience & youth for this season, with the 4 cbs we have now.

To me, that is the actual point imo. How good Otamendi is is almost irrelevant, as we simply don't need him. You barely need 4 CB's at the club (as shown by Boyata only playing about 4 times last year, almost if not all of them were voluntary rather than by neccessity) and we currently have pretty much the perfect balance you'd want from your 4.

We have the experience and nous of Demichelis, who also has gotten used to our system and knows it inside out from either side of the defence and is coming to an age where he'll be more accepting of a rotation role. We have Kompany, who when fully fit and firing is just about as dominant a CB as you'll find, along with being our captain. Then we have Mangala, who is physically exceptional, has good experience and looked to be getting more and more at home in our system as the season went on, then finally we have Denayer, one of the most promising young CB's in world football. We're already getting rid of Rekik, another of the most promising young CB's in the world, just because we don't have space for him in the first team with the defenders we have, so I don't see any reason why we'd be looking to add another to that mix.

He's absolute class, a real warrior, but we don't need him. Kind of like a Zaba but at CB, always wanting to put in a tackle or get in a fight and he more than makes up for his lack of height with his aggression in the air. But we simply don't need him. He can only really play as a left sided CB and we are already stacked with fantastic CB's(at least I think he can only play on the left as I've never seen him on the right and Garay moved over to the right to facilitate him in the Argentina team. That to me suggests Otamendi can't play there, as Garay playing on the left is pretty much the bedrock of their defence usually). In Kompany and Demichelis we have more than enough experience and in Mangala and Denayer we have two of the best young CB's in world football, who I would n't be at all surprised if they went on to become one of the great partnerships, as their games are suited well to each others. The only way I could see us wanting Otamendi is if Kompany was leaving, and that isn't happening.

He's going to cost someone a fortune and they probably won't regret it, but CB is just about the last position we need to be spending big money on.
Eh? Kompany has been picking up a worrying number of injuries. I've seen milk turn quicker than Demichelis. Mangala is still settling in. After that we're left with kids. I'd say centre back should be a high priority.
