People act like our defence is great or something. Our goals conceded last year wasn't bad, but flattered us a bit. Maybe the club is looking more at our defensive performances in so many Champions League games. City vs. Barca could have finished 6 or 7 to Barca if not for Joe Hart's career best and City would have noted that rather saying "well, we only conceded 1". I'd still prefer a high-end defensive midfielder though, but am not opposed to us strengthening any defensive area.

You can spend 200 million on defence and still be shit if the manager can't come up with a decent defensive system. I think last season was more about the system as we played too open football in CL.

He can play both. I watched him a lot for Valencia last season because Sky were always playing their games. He played on the right with Mustafi and on the left with Vezo. He can do either. Played on the right at Porto as well - when Mangala on the left.

I'm assuming it's for Demichelis, and the club are being proactive about finding a replacement for him who fits the Pellegrini mould.

A lot of people here upset about Denayer's game time or the fact it would mean we had 3 first choice CB's.

I had a quick look at Real Madrid last season. They have Pepe, Ramos, Varane and Nacho.

Varane played 46 times

Ramos played 42 times

Pepe played 38 times

Nacho played 20 times.

Replace those with Otamendi, Mangala, Vinny (injuries) and Denayer respectively and I fail to see how everyone wouldn't be happy.

This guy is a warrior tbh. He and kompany would bully every striker in Europe. And not only this playing alongside his fellow countryman in Zaba would create a heaping of confidence off the bat. We could loan out mangala for a season to Valencia to allow him to progress his game further against the likes of barca and real. Or if not we allow MDM to leave for river plate meaning we'd have Kompany, Mangala, Denayer And Otamendi as our options!

Assuming we actually want Zuculini, Otamendi would replace a foreign player anyway. so at most, we'd need to offload 1 player.

No idea if otamendi is any good, but I can tell you mangala has not looked good enough. If he had been bought for 3million nobody would be suggesting mangala should be I the team.we are currently playing a price tag not a player

Sadly, have to agree with this. Eli got a lot of praise for Monday night, but gave the ball away on a number of occasions and conceded stupid freekicks. And the stream of hospital passes seems never ending. If this is what we consider a great performance, we are setting our sights too low. Otamendi will be Eli's replacement, I reckon, not Martin's.
