I'm in this camp exactly. The only way we do this transfer without it costing us Denayer - who only signed a new contract last week after expressing concern about playing time - is if Otamendi replaces Mangala.

Then you have Otamendi-Kompany-Denayer as your 3 main CB's, like how Real manage to keep Varane happy with Pepe and Ramos ahead of him.

If you are knocking Denayer down to 4th choice then he will not get played, he'll get fed up and he'll leave, and we'll lose out on one of the most promising CB's of his generation.

Maybe we want to have 4 good CB 2 left centre back Mangala,Otamendi and 2 right centre back Kompany,Denayer and will be a big competition between them for starting place.See Bayern they have 5 CB Dante,Benatia,Boateng,Javi Martinez , Badstuber and also Alaba sometimes play CB.

Javi Martinez - also plays defensive midfield to get extra game time, is usually injured.

Badstuber - Has been injured for 2 years

Alaba - Plays LB, CM, as a number 10 and as a CB occasionally.

Benatia - The new guy who didn't arrive expecting a staring spot

They make it work because they have a lot of injury prone players or players who crossover positions.

We don't.

We should be thinking of Real with Ramos, Pepe & Varane. Or the chavs with Terry, Cahill and Zouma.

2 starters, a young up-and-comer to keep them on their toes, and a veteran to provide emergency cover and experience.

We have a perfect set up. Our defence's biggest problem last year was the lack of protection offered by the midfield. We are adressing that with Delph and Pogba, so CB seems totally unnecessary for a €50m signing.

If we spend on defence it should be LB.
