When I asked about Otamendi earlier in the thread I'm fairly sure the description I got back sounded like another Kompany/Mangala type defender, which given we already own Kompany and Mangala, is the last sort of centre half we need to purchase. We need Demichellis 5 years ago.

He is decent enough but he is currently flavour of the month because he scored a fair few goals for a centre back last season. Defending is mostly about your teams shape and organisation anyway. That said, I wouldn't mind bringing in a special defender, but there is no reason to make a panic purchase.

5 years ago Demichelis was like Mangala/Otamendi. Don't bring Kompany into it because he clearly can't play the Pellegrini style, hence his regression since Pellegrini arrived.

1. He's played Pellers' style and played it really good. In 2013/14, City's defence was Kompany and Kompany was City's defence. That's not turning a blind eye to the fact that Pellers' system is a difficult one for most defenders
2. A good defender is good defender (so long as form is intact), he may struggle initially with a system that's kinda new to him but his quality will show with time
