I wonder what that is actually supposed to mean?

i have always found that cynics are either narrow minded or are trying to convince themselves with their arguements because although they are trying to be logical they cant get rid of that little doubt in the back of their minds

Okay now I understand. That's the opposite to what I have experienced. I always try to remain as open minded as possible and whilst nobody can ever be 100% convinced about anything which is intangible my overwhelming feeling is that it is nonsense. I understand that you think I am narrow minded, I am open minded enough to appreciate that you are entitled to an opinion. Even if that opinion is wrong.

My sister and her friends used to mess with it, I saw her in the morning having a laugh I said `anyone been in touch` she said her mate was trying to get in touch with her fiance who had committed suicide years before, he had wanted to be a priest so it was flying in the face of all he was supposed to hold dear (life) when this tragic episode happened suddenly and no explanation was given, you can imagine how grief stricken this girl was, and still looking for answers years later, my sis said the glass went mad flying around the board and they shit themselves but managed to scrabble some letters down before throwing the lights on, in their panic and nervousness they could`nt decipher anything from the letters, she gave me the paper with the letters on and I kept glancing at them on the car seat going to work, when it jumped out at me, with one letter spare it read, "I AM GAY" ....... Rang my sis soon as I got to work and she said that must be the explanation.

I do`nt believe all this mumbo jumbo and would probably put it down to auto suggestion, there are parts of our brain though that scientists do`nt understand the function of even in this day and age, maybe parts of it ARE connected to another dimension we ca`nt explain ? Like exile I have had frightening experiences that most people would suggest were a dream, I`m sure it was`nt !!!

you should be a politician fella, lol. i always try to see both sides but after a while of reading scientific opinions which were taken as fact i found that most scientists are as much extremist and blinkered as the biggest religous nut, science is its own religion which can be as dangerous as any religous extremist

Yeah, I understand that but its not scientists I admire but science, i.e the weight of evidence, the consensus of opinion. A single scientist is no more than a theorist working to whatever agenda he/she follows.

Never done it mysef, and never would. But I had a friend at school whose whole family used to get together and do the board every Friday night. The all of a sudden one day she came into school saying something really frightening had happened with it this time and that they would never be doing it again. And they never did. Neither would any of them discuss what had happened.

That's a different debate altogether (religion) although I acknowledge it links to this discussion. Darwin called it a theory because he couldn't prove it whereas science has proved his theory to the extent that it is now accepted fact. (outside of creationists whose beliefs fly in the face of all available evidence). Darwin didn't even publish his theory for several years as he believed (rightly) that he would upset people whose beliefs were predicated on creationism and spirituality.

This boils down to whether you believe in Science and evidence or supposition and belief. As you can tell I am firmly in the former camp. I like evidence and facts, though theories are fine as long as they are supported by more than just anecdotes.
