Crikey, can't believe how much traction this is getting. I'm sure slavery is the first thing anybody thinks of when they look at our badge?!!! If it is they're clearly a woke, jobsworth snowflake! You can twist most things to suit an agenda if you look and try hard enough.

What next? Ban the Arsenal badge because an individual is upset they discovered somebody died from cannon fire? How about ban the Brighton badge because seagulls keep shitting on my car and I think they're mocking me by having it on their shirt?

Perhaps someone has mentioned it already but didn't the original Chelsea FC badge have a Chelsea pensioner on it? Read it somewhere, and it's always possible that someone was having a bit of fun. But if it did have a pensioner what mileage could you get from that? I expect that it would offend someone retrospectively but I really cannot think how. Of course it could be the other way round: a retro reinstatement of the pensioner on a new Chelsea badge would be A Good Thing, showing the caring side of Chelsea FC.

Here is the alternative view. I wouldn’t normally quote The Sun as a reference in a history discussion but this article is actually well written.

Of particular interest is the bit where it states that the ships are thought to derive from the Manchester coat of arms, adopted in 1842, many years after slavery was outlawed in the British empire.

It looks like The Sun did their research whereas the “politcally correct” Guardian failed to do theirs.

So they did, didn't know that. Wouldn't be safe reinstating that mate. It'd be construed as being ageist.
