Our biggest ever game?

A quarter final regardless of the competition is not the biggest game in our history, pretty sad if it is. Loads of games mentioned which were bigger than last night but let's not take anything away from it. Fantastic night and just another awesome day in the life of being a blue.

The final however will be a whole new level.

How old are you? Serious question.

Because I've seen us play in 2 European trophy semi-finals and a final. The 1904 FA Cup win, the 1937 title win, Newcastle in 1968, the three games (rags, Newcastle & QPR) in 2012 all were bigger games in my view in terms of importance.

Not sure what age has to do with it. The ECWC does not compare in anyway to the European Cup it never did.

Rather than trying to measure it in terms of "greatness" where does it fit in terms of how happy you felt at the end? It was a great feeling when De Bruyne scored and at the final whistle. But in terms of sheer elation I would put it behind:

The 3 final games of 11/12
The 1-6
The FA cup SF and F
Palace 14 (coupled with Liverpool's defeat)
Gillingham
Newcastle 68
Ballet on Ice
A few other derby wins.

The semi finals won't be our biggest ever games neither but I think it will overtake the ECWC final as our biggest game in Europe.

I still think title deciders are bigger than a semi final, European Cup or not.

That's why I asked. It did in those days. There really was little or no difference between the two.

Back in the 70s my recollection was that the FA Cup was as highly regarded as the League and similarly the CWC was seen in a similar light as the European Cup. The UEFA cup was always less important. Until we reach a CL final the CWC final in 1970 will always be bigger in terms of European fixtures. A quarter final in any competition is way down the list.
