Our glaring weakness at LB, will it be fixed?

I think we should be looking at Rodriguez at Wolfsburg to be honest. Great left back. Gaya at Valencia is also very good. For what it's worth I do think Clichy will be better with Sterling in front of him. He presses well and has a bit more about him defensively than Silva. We do at times leave our full backs out to dry.

Think our left side will be solid with Delph and Sterling in front of the left back. It's our major weakness and
every opponent tries to exploit it, the amount of goals that come from there is ridiculous.

Hear me out.......

I actually think when fully firing and in form kolarov is great, he is better than most of the left backs in the Prem and going forward he is very good - arguably to me the best attacking left back in the prem and possibly the best left footed crosser in the prem.....

But I think he needs to be at 100% to play at this level and to do well and when he is 95% fit he is not 95% effective he is suddenly 50% effective. With clichy if he is 95% fit he is 95% effective.

I have seen it early in the season , in friendlies and coming back from injury every time these things happen kolarov is at his worst. However a few weeks into the first team and particularly towards the end of the season when he is at 100% he is actually a very good player . For me therefore we need to play clichy early on whilst we get Aleks up to speed and get some miles into his legs.

But I don't think we have a glaring issue there we just have a need to play Kolarov and cliche at the right times

Agree stat wise Kolorav is one of the best left backs in the premier with clichy as well we don't need a new left back

Really interesting item just been on SSN with Mike Riley regarding new interpretation of offside rule - should suit the way we step up and may help our defence and therefore some of the issues we all have had concerns about.

I would think the plan is to leave the LB position until next summer by which time Clichy is out of contract and hopefully Angelino will be ready for a squad place. At that point Kolarov can probably also be replaced if we've identified a target as our first choice LB.

Angelinos loan to NYCFC is a fast track into our first team thinking I feel.

Spot on. There feels to be some movement with some of our younger players now and Viera's opinion of Angelino is very high indeed.

How can anyone say that Kolorov is a good attacking full back? He has a phenomenal cross for sure but he seldom gets in a position to use if effectively, he can't get past a player, he can't keep a passing sequence flowing... And while he can't do these things he is constantly unrecoverably out of position.

Clichy can't cross at all but is still a way better full back than Kolorov.

At least Angelino is being tested now to see if he's ready.

I'd still be a lot happier if Kolorov was replaced this season....and Sagna too please. We really are kidding ourselves if we think those 2 won't cost us precious points again and again.

How have we managed to finish 1st,2nd,1st then 2nd in the last 4 seasons then rag? They might not be World Class but they're both decent full backs

I don't think Kolarov is as good going forward as is made out. He just continually whacks the ball aimlessly but hard into the box, defensively he offers us nothing, and we should 100% be trying to upgrade.

People say keep Kolarov cause he's good attackingly but he has 1 good cross in 6/7 , shoots whenever he gets 40 yards within goal , try's the same trick everytime trying to put it through the defenders closed legs , and he can't defend

Not a rag. Maybe last season we could have won if we were more fluid in attack and not so exposed in defense, ie had excellent full backs.

I'd look to take Ashley Cole on for a season whilst we continue the development of the likes of Angelino.
Sell Kolorov to Roma for 5-8 million and Cole on a freebie and jobs a good'un.

Best crosser of the ball in the Premiership. Only Baines comes close. Often he is one of our best attacking threats but we don't play target man football so it's a bit wasted at times, and we don't have late runners arriving in the penalty area for pull backs.

Ashley Cole and Lampard used to core loads ofgoals from the overlap and pull back to the on rushing Lampard

Cole? Have you seen him recently? Obviously not

Disagree mate, but I highly doubt he or Clichy will leave this season, so we most likely need to look at this area next year.

How can anyone say that Kolorov is a good attacking full back?

13/14 season - 7 assists, same as Nasri and Navas and 2 fewer than Silva and Yaya, not bad for a crap attacking full back.

Over the 5 seasons Kolarov has been at the club his assists and goals tally is very similar to Zabaleta's, do you think Zaba is a poor attacking full back too?
