Owning a nice watch

I know there is a big market for expensive watches and I don't get it either.
I like my Samsung smart watch, I can pay for things with it, it tells me the weather, lets me talk to people if my phone isn't nearby, plays music. Heart rate, Brilliant, all for $299.
The thing that puts me off a smart watch is it's just another thing I have to remember to charge.

I put mine on charge when I go to bed, same with phone, it's easy once you get used to it.
Well yeah, but between that, a bedside lamp, my phone and a laptop charger, I've already run out of sockets. I've forgotten to charge stuff enough times to know that it would be a semi-regular occurrence with a watch too. Going on holiday is the worst one though. I might bring a laptop, phone, camera and headphones, all of which need charging. Then you get into the hotel room and find that they've got 2 spare sockets.

It's also worth mentioning that these smart watches are inevitably going to have a much shorter lifespan. At some stage, they'll stop supporting them. Meanwhile, I spent 90 quid on a watch 20 years ago and it still works fine.

Fair enough, it's all down to what you want. I was really only saying I don't get the expensive watches for 20 grand.
Smart watch is it for me now. I love it.

Watch collecting is a passion and a hobby. I read about them and find the history really fascinating. It makes me laugh when people say there's no point in watches because I've got a phone or I bought a watch for 10p 20 years ago and it works fine. Do you think the watch enthusiast doesn't know this. If that's the way you think then you'll never get it.
I agree some people wear them to flex and show off. My watches stay firmly under my cuff. They are for me. I suppose it's similar to saying what's the point of wearing a 500quid jumper or why drive a nice car when I go on the bus. Each to their own I suppose.

Whilst there are plenty of mongalongasixpence over-size watch wearers that have jumped on board the need to be seen...the real essence is engineering ( micro) which seems to have been rolling along since the wheel..the electronic phones are a different thing.

Plus there's an innate fascination for how mankind can manipulate steel, especially when the company on the dial produce the engine..sometimes you can become a little parrot with 'made in china'.

Be better again without the date to highlight those beautiful creased chevron indexs to full forme and anthracite wouldnt be my choice for a dial colour but not a bad effort, lovely case.

I schlepped over to the Oxfam shop it was in at lunch and gave it a good inspect.
No damage, all working (though can't be 100% on the internals).
I guess a battery change will be needed at some stage.
Lass who worked there agreed that it looked like it was barely worn.

Receipt and manual and box all in (purchased 2017).
Not bad for £150 and it's my preferred style.
It's here on Chrono24 for £700+

Will pack it away till my birthday at the weekend.
Not the best photo but you get the gist (you can see the knitted Oxfam hummus socks in the background)....

Evening all.
One of the pins came loose in the strap last month, but I managed to tap in back in snugly.

However, another pin dropped out recently and was long lost before I could find it.

Any idea of somewhere South Manchester this can be replaced? It's hardly fine watch repairing/internals, although I will eventually need to find somewhere that replaces the battery when that goes.

Thanks!
