I've said this before but I sometimes wonder if he gets so engrossed in the game that he just loses track of time and/or forgets he has subs. It's the most logical solution I can come up with as to why the hell he didn't use his bench tonight given there were numerous candidates to be brought off and the likes of sterling, jesus and gundogan all waiting to come on.

the team was crying out to be refreshed with 20 minutes left we looked laboured and lacking in energy and ideas and he does nothing. Defenders concentrating for 70 minutes want nothing less than being given a fresh new opponent to match up against, a player who might do different things, has different strengths and probably most crucially has tonnes more energy. How often do you see a scouse sub come on and score a late crucial goal, whereas, when we need a goal we just stick with the same players and the same approach that's not worked for the 70 minutes so far. His team selection was fine, his use of subs, or lack of, was shit.

What's happened to the inverted fullback strategy? Seems to have completely disappeared in the last 2 months.

Cancelo basically playing like a winger rather than helping control midfield and ping balls over the top and Walker is so wide but crossing or ball control has never been a strength of his.

Possibly coinciding with double inverted wingers with Foden F9 and no longer LW.

Kinda miss it.

Who would have thought that not embedding Delap into this team last season in place of Gabriel, when we desperately needed a striker, would come back to bite us?

We have got a 27-year-old youngster who will never be good enough to lead the front line, another one who doesn't want to play as a striker, yet still we sold Ferran to Barcelona.

Pep is a world class manager but sometimes you need guys like Rummenigge to keep him in check. 100 million pounds on Grealish, 50 plus for Rodri rather than going for someone similar in the mould of Fernandinho, deliberately phased out pace from this team, which led to ultra reliance on midfielders and now they are burned out at a crucial stage of the season. Let's hope we won't bottle it.
Phasing out the pace in the team was only going to go one way. No pace throughout the side. Never replaced Leroy. The team is also nowhere near as exciting.

And?
You suggested that not embedding a young striker, who has been injured most of the season, into the team was always going to bite us on the arse. I think you are talking out of yours.

It was this season that he suffered a major setback, why was he dropped after scoring on his debut when it was clear since day one that he can easily bully defenders?

Injury is just an excuse, he wouldn't have started him anyway, and it is evident from our pursuit of Haaland, whose link-up play is really not that good, that he is willing to give up control of possession for goals.

His record is abysmal when it comes to giving chances to youth players, if we had any average strike up front we would have won it, and Delap is far better than your average striker.

I don’t see that a sub means the result is different which is what people appear to be saying.

yes a sub might well have been made but the result is not a consequence of not making one.

usual suspects piling in as per

No it wasn’t. We were hammering them. We didn’t need to disrupt the rhythm with subs. 4-0 wouldn’t have flattered us tonight. He was right to stick with the team.
Just needed a couple of tweaks to try something a bit different up front imo.

Foden was terrible. Sterling could have given that little bit extra we were lacking.

At least we didn't lose!
